I thought so too. I'm not going to use it. I've done several trade ins and always get full value. The way I look at it is it dropped the price on my M1 MBA from $999 to $669 not to shabby, and next year it will drop the price by xxx, as long as I don't stop I keep saving. That is the way it works right!?!?! ?Decent price for that I would think. I have the 2018 i7, 32gb ram, 512gb ssd. I'll have to look in to what I can get.
That worked out for you and him well. I realize on trade I loose for not having to spend time trying to sell and worry about getting ripped off.I was planning on using Apple Trade-In for my 2019 MBA. They were offering $590, which was about $150 less than what I could get on eBay after shipping and fees. I'm a 24 year eBay veteran, but still worry about selling electronics over $500. I offered it to my brother for $590, since that's all I was getting through Apple, and he went for it. Great deal for him.
How do you do this? It seems to be a separate process from the purchase process now.I traded in my 2019 13" MBP when I ordered my M1 base model Air. I got instant credit for using the Apple Card and, even though Apple only gave me $670 in credit, I have no regrets. The FedEx box is coming today to send in my old 13" Pro - it was nice to have both for a few days to compare side-by-side.
The process is described on Apple's site here, but feel free to ask specific questions in this thread if anything isn't clear. Note on that link there's a FAQ at the bottom of the page with many helpful answers. How do you do this? It seems to be a separate process from the purchase process now.
Apple recently expanded in-store trades to include macbooks. It previously limited those trade-ins to iPhones and iPads. If you set it up online, you'll be dealing with Phobio via mail. If you want to do it in store, just go to the store with your Mac and do the trade there after following the steps in the article below. You may need to make a reservation so check first. You can use Apple's trade-in estimator tool to get an idea what you'll be offered in-store if they find the condition to be the same as what you indicated.

That's correct, they did. No idea why you quoted me though. I hadn't mentioned Macs were excluded.Apple recently expanded in-store trades to include macbooks. It previously limited those trade-ins to iPhones and iPads.
And there's another option: if Apple follows its usual course, there will be M1 Apple refurbs available in February/March.Great thread. Two takeaways - I might trade in my 2014 and 2015 MacBook Pros when the M1X models come out or I might buy a used iMac because of all of the cheap Intel Macs that will show up on the used marketplace when the M1X models come out.
