Going from an OLED screen to a 720P LCD is not a wise choice.. only for the fact that it has an A12? The A11 is already fast as heck. Not gonna "upgrade" this year.

That's a downgrade...

No stainless steel...
Thicker bezels...
Debatable but consensus is still OLED > LCD
Not to mention SINGLE camera lens... (means no bokeh)

I know iPhone XR is new but, what are you thinking!? o_O

The single lens can produce portrait pics(bokeh). Longer battery life is pretty important too.

Yup, I totally am!

I consider it “sidegrading” because there are both strengths and weaknesses but I’ll start by saying I happily welcome the return of the Apple signature color white and I prefer aluminum over stainless steel because it matches the look of all my other Apple devices perfectly. And even though it’s a cheaper material, I just honestly like the look of it more.

But the cameras on the XR are looking great. Yea, I lose a bit of aperture and halved zoom, but I still get my portrait while adding both bokeh and depth control to offset that. And while I lose screen quality, I gain with the screaming A12 and longer battery life. I’ll also get a chance to get the 256GB of storage which I regretfully passed up when I first bought my X.

Looking forward to October 19. :D

I think I'm going 8+ to XR. LCDs for the win.

And all LCDs are TFT. You are thinking IPS vs TN. The new XR is still IPS. Apples LCDs are the best screens out there in my opinion, and that includes the OLEDs. No flickering for the win! Also, LED refers to the type of backlight used, not the screen tech itself.

Another thing - the XR should be lighter than the X, which is good for pockets.

What’s this flickering that you speak of?

I stand corrected then. But still, with a single lens system, I doubt it'd be an UPGRADE from the dual camera lens system of iPhone X.
The Xr has a better camera than the X though.

You lose the second telephoto lens, but it you never need to zoom in, the Xr will take better pictures.

So yeah, its an upgrade.

Tele photo lens isnt used just for zooming, though. It is also used for creating the bokeh effect as well.

Xr probably recreated the bokeh effect via AI algorithm is my assumption. I dont know how good the AI is, but I doubt itd be better than a dual lens system that operates on the basis of physical difference in distance.

I was actually surprised by the XR and how much it actually includes with this new phone, wireless charging, the latest A12 processor, same face ID tendencies as the other models, although it does have the IP67 rating from the iPhone X, lots of colors, ect. The XR will do really well Come October.

the portrait mode being available on the Xr is very nice. That lens is an f1.8, and in photography it's about light. This means that you can use portrait mode in lower light with much better results. I always thought the pixel 2's portrait mode was better than the iphone X's. I wonder if you can also adjust the shutter speed, etc, and the taking of a pic will be instant compared to the slight lag on the current X's portrait mode.

Do users have the option to use portrait mode on the XS with the f1.8 lens as well? I doubt it.

There's also no reason why Apple can not include portrait mode with every single lens camera iphone that can run ios 12 since it's just software based. It might take longer on a 5s, but it could be done.

Another big reason to go with the XR is because while everyone says the X's screen is the same size as an 8 plus screen, it's actually considerably narrower. By area it's 10% less than the plus' screen, but functionally it still feels a bit constrained. I felt the plus screen was definitely larger still in daily use because it's wider. The XR now has a screen width that is at least that of the 8 plus and much longer. This XR phone is a pocketable plus size screen and I think the final optimization that maximizes screen size for one-handed use. The XS and the previous plus were just too big for anyone to use one-handed. If you were hoping for the old iphone 8 plus to shrink, without giving up any screen size width or height, the XR is your phone. The X behaves like the iphone 8, whereas the XR I think will behave like a plus phone with its landscape mode extras, two panel views, etc.
