let me ask this...is anyone keeping both and they have a MacBook as well?

I have both new models, a 15” MBP and a high end Windows 10 gaming/photo/video editing computer. I use them all for very different things and hate trying to accommodate the wrong tool for a task.

I had the MacBook Pro 13 inch and a gaming PC. Now that I have graduated with a Master’s Degree, I see myself not using the laptop as often. So I sold my laptop to cover the price of the new iPad Pro 11 inch.

Having used both 11 and 12.9 for a while, I'm pretty tempted to keep both around, but definitely can't justify the cost of both. They feel a bit too close in size to me to keep both around.

For the prior 18 months I used a 2017 iPad Pro 12.9, and a mini 4. That felt like a nice combination. The 12.9 was almost always sitting on the keyboard in landscape. The 2018 12.9 feels significantly lighter to the point that I do carry it around and use it more as an "iPad" compared to the 2017. I'm kind of torn on which one to keep right now (12.9 or 11), but boy would I love an updated 8-9ish inch iPad to complement the 12.9.

I use 2 12.9" as my computer (getting a mac mini tomorrow -as a server). 2015 & 2018

How is the 11"compared to the size of 2018 ipad? I am thinking of getting the LTE II"to take places around town.

Man I hate to say that I’m in this situation as well.

Writing on the iPad Pro with the Pencil is definitely better on the 12.9. I write a lot of notes and there is so much more space for my hands to move around and using it on split screen is perfect. I’m a musician so it’s definitely better to read music sheets on the 12.9 as well. However as a tablet to be used when moving around or on the couch, it’s doable but it gets very unwieldy and uncomfortable after 10 minutes use or so.

Typing with a Smart Keyboard, from my experience of trying them out on the apple store, seems to be equal on both sizes. I prefer typing on the 11 though because of the compact feel to it. It’s almost like typing on a really portable mini laptop. Also I’d need to constantly reach up higher on the 12.9 to navigate the screen with my finger compared to the 11. This is very annoying with Word and Excel.

So I’m thinking the best compromise from both sizes to complete each other is:
12.9” + Apple Pencil: for writing on split screen and reading music sheets
11” + Smart Keyboard: for a more on-the-go typing up messages, emails, browsing the internet, occasional word processing

I know all the problems I listed are very first world problem situations and the solutions are very pricey but hey, as mentioned above, thinking is free 😄

I’m glad this thread got resurrected. With iPadOS I’m feeling like the once perfect 11” is cramped for multitasking. BUT it’s perfect for travel.

I don’t have a 12.9 IPP, but I’d guess it’s way better for multitaksing but a lot less convenient for travel.

Basically, until Apple invents a folding IPP the optimal solution is to get both, right?

I sold my 12.9 and got a 2019 MacBook Air and kept my 11 inch iPad. Better combo for my needs work and at home

Kind of - I kept my 10.5 Pro when I got my 2018 12.9. I didn't want to sell it for a loss and I had already given an iPad to my daughter so I decided to hold onto it. It doesn't get much use as I like the 12.9 so much.

I finally capitulated with a 12.9 (after much heaving and hawing) as I needed more RAM. More importantly, mom needed an iPad to replace the 2018, so I just gave her the Air 3.

I am surprised how much I like the 3rd gen, iPP beyond the 2nd gen pencil (Not using Face ID). An 11" for travel/commutes would be great, but I will wait until the 4th gen. I'd prefer a Mini with the Pro design and specs, but I do not think Apple will go there.
