To call Apple 'Microsoft' is a bit extreme.

To me, Microsoft = incompetently built, second-rate software.

Apple still makes great stuff (with the occasional gaff, as they always have). They're just becoming a little more priggish.

No, I don't think so. Apple's business model is quite different from Microsoft's. Apple is a hardware/devices company, and Microsoft is a software company. Apple wants you to buy their computers, phones, MP3 players, and iPads; Microsoft wants you to have Windows and Office installed everywhere.

Yes, Apple has made some colossal mistakes, and could stand to be more open, but they aren't Microsoft. As I said, utterly different business model, and different focuses.

(And I might get flamed for this, but Windows 7 is overrated. It may be better than Vista, but it's still Windows, and it's annoying. It still reeks of Microsoft.)

Apple - Premium, limited hardware compatibility, does software and hardware

So no, not unless Apple unleashes OS X for PCs and forgets the hardware. Apple is closed dictator while MS is a lot more open company

Windows vs OS X is an opinion question. Some people prefer one over another. There is no answer on which is better as both have their pros and cons

YES. I had a Windows 7 box for a little while and I got sick of it. In fact, I found it more irritating than XP. (Never really bothered with Vista, so I can't speak to that as much.) Everyone's talking about how "wonderful" Windows 7 is, but it's still Windows. The same old viruses, User Account Control, blue screens, annoying error messages, security holes, constant restarts, Windows Updates, and...well, the general Windows experience. Ick. I constantly see posts and comments insinuating that Win 7 is the second coming of Christ or something—it's not! It's Vista with a facelift. I think that a lot of Windows users are just relieved that Microsoft did something about Vista, so what would've been a normal Windows release becomes a brilliant "innovation."

The problem with you people is that you are constantly living in an inescapable level of denial. PC users can admit that there are some things that make OSX unique and some things it does better than Windows. You just saying OSX is best and everything else sucks just shows how ignorant you are and doesn't do much to change everyone's opinion of how closed-minded and just generally unintelligent the Apple fanbase is. Same Windows experience? I don't think so, bub.

Finally someone level headed. Comments like "reeks of microsoft" are just ignorant and do a good job of showing the person's bias.

We get you enjoy OS X. I personally enjoy Windows over OS X, but every time someone mentions OS X Im not making comments about how it reeks of Apple's smugness. Id rather make valid complaints like your window management and Expose suck.

Hasn't Apple always behaved the way they are doing so now? It's just that they are bigger and more successful. The iPhone has exposed many more people to Apple. But Apple has alway been closed, secretive, and monolithic. Apple seems the same to me.

Apple vertically integrates their products. They make the software and the hardware, and now even distribute third party software for some of their products.

MS on the other hand makes only software for the most part. They have limited control over computer makers. When they exercised, or some say abused that control they got in trouble with the department of justice. It also angered many computer users. This situation doesn't apply to Apple.

I enjoy Linux more and more lately, I am beginning to care less what Apple and MS do. Lately it just makes more sense to me to buy the hardware and to run free software I would abandon Apple completely if not for my G4 and Linux's limited support for the PPC architecture

Can both co-exist? MSFT just made a billion more profit this last quarter then Apple. Reports of their demise are strongly exaggerated. MSFT owns the enterprise space and Apple is not making any serious moves(blade servers?)

As long as microsoft own the enterprise, microsoft aren't going anywhere. There is no one company that threatens microsoft in this space - so they are here to stay.

So . . . Apple produces sh***y, uninspiring products no one really wants?

Apple is simply able to dictate their own destiny. Finally. The more Apple gear can proliferate, the more it'll replace a lot of the crap that's floating around out there, and then even more consumers can start to actually enjoy tech.

I'll admit Apple has made some decisions I don't agree with in the last few years, and they aren't the same company I used to be so passionate about. With that said, I think they're still a hell of a lot better than any other company that's even close to their size.

I think it stands to reason that there might be Apple fans on an Apple forum. I don't visit Windows forums to talk about how it sucks. And yes, I do dislike Windows. This isn't because of unfamiliarity with Windows; in fact, I grew up with Windows, and have used most of the Windows releases. My irritation with Windows stems from extensive familiarity of it and its foibles. I really don't care if others prefer Windows; it's their prerogative. My dislike of Windows has no bearing on your operating system preference. Nobody's stopping you from using Windows, and nobody's stopping me from using a Mac. It seems that in these computer threads, people seem to be personally offended that someone else doesn't care for their OS choices, and they get very defensive. I've seen it with Mac users, Linux users, and Windows users. If you like Linux, that's awesome. If you prefer Windows or Mac or anything else, great. I'm not going to sit there and tell you that you shouldn't use Windows because I prefer Mac OS for *myself*.

Is apple under an increasingly strong microscope. Yes and to be honest, deservedly so. Do they act like d*cks yes, and while some of their behavior could have been excused while being the underdog. Its intolerable and its arrogance leave's a bad taste in people's mouths now that they're the dominate player.

People love to root for the underdog. Likewise people love to see the top dog be toppled. What they seem to despise more is the top dog exhibiting arrogance. This is apple and its evidences by the growing groundswell of apple haters. There's more people that enjoy slamming apple then ever before, of course Jobs and company are providing ample ammunition for such attacks.

I like many of apple products and I'm eagerly waiting for updates to OSX, its applications and some of their lines, including 13" MBP, MBA but they seem more interested in making iMovie for the iPhone then updating iLife. So I wait...
