Apple benefits having their own OS and hardware configurations in the notebook, mini and 1 box.
Their product issues such as with some of the 3GS phones having wifi issues, iPad wifi issues, light leaks, and the antenna issue benefit from relatively short product runs < than a year.
I am a firm believer that apple and other companies know they are releasing flawed products. Most issues seem to be adequately fixed through a software patch while others are fixed in the next version or product run.
If anything I feel apple isn't becoming anyone, they are accepting what others have in the past.
Wifi reception issues, battery issues, chip set issues, video card issues, assembly issues; show me another hardware company that hasn't had issues in those areas..
In the end it's how the flaw/defect is handled when the consumer realizes there's an issue.
Honestly, I don't think SJ wouldnt have stood up on the world stage if the antenna issue wasn't an issue.

When has Apple ever done "embrace, extend, and extinguish" like MSFT? Fact is capitalism is a beautiful thing and by free will the American people have chosen Apple. Let me know when Apple has 90% desktop share. Currently the only monopoly they have is touch-screen tablets which is a market they just invented for cryin' out loud. Heck they could raise the price on the 16GB Wi-Fi to $599 and it will still sell like hotcakes. But MSFT is still a convicted monopolist with a stranglehold on the desktop/office markets.

Who cares ????

People shouldn't be treating companies as rock bands or sports teams. Companies are in business to make profits for their share holders and do not have the customers welfare as a top priority. Buy the products you like and don't buy the products that you don't like.

If you like the unrestrained capitalism that is so benefitting Apple right now how can you accuse MS of being a "convicted monopolist?" Would Apple have behaved any differently?

No, I don't think so. Apple's business model is quite different from Microsoft's. Apple is a hardware/devices company, and Microsoft is a software company.

There is this little thing called OS X you have not noticed. It's an operating system and a great piece of software. A lot of people overlook OS X because it runs very well. People notice Windows, especially Vista, for other reasons. ;) At least MS has made the good faith move of putting out Windows 7.

MS is going nowhere as they are still the 800 lb. gorilla and rule the business field.

It would take Apple to be a really big monopoly for a very long time before they ever became comparable to Microsoft. Apple has grown and become somewhat more arrogant, but it's still laughable to think they are like Gates and company.
