Is Apple serious about the iPad?

The Ipad Air and Mini retina specs are no where as good compared to high end tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro line up, (rumoured) Nexus 8.

And the Ipad Air/Rmini only have 1GB of RAM and it seems it is a problem because of Apps keeps crashing and Safari tabs keeps reloading due to lack of RAM and other tablets like the Galaxy Tab Pro line up have 2GB of RAM, it is great at multitasking, and it has extra features like the multi window that the Ipad don't have.

The only 2 things that the Ipad has over Android tablets is the very big range of apps and the quality of the apps in the App store but the Google Play Store and Windows app store are getting close to the level of quality of apps that the ipad has and the popularity of the Ipad over the world.

But i am wondering is Apple serious about the Ipad? Are Apple aware that they need to make the Ipad to be on the same level as the competition like Samsung, Google tablets?

Will this be the year that the next gen Ipad Air/Mini 2 finally have more RAM? because they still haven't upgraded the RAM since the Ipad 3 and be more of a computer replacement like high end tablets.

I really hope Apple are serious the Ipad and making it into more of a computer replacement for most people.

I am pretty sure the Ipad have the potential to be way better in the future than it is at the moment.

Would it be a different story if Steve Jobs was still the CEO of Apple? and what Jobs would of done different about the Ipad than the current CEO Tim Cook? I know Steve Jobs was against the idea of making a smaller Ipad and bashing about 7inch tablets.

Do you own an iPad, do you experience these problems first hand? As far as I know, the iPad air doesnt have those issues you mention. Apple puts in the hardware it needs. 2GB would be nice, but if one suffices, why spend the extra $ on 2?

I think you are engaging in a bit of emotion-fueled dramatics. The Windows app store is no where near the level of quantity and quality of apps available for iOS. I own both an iPad 4 and a Surface 2 (plus a multitude of Android tablets) and there is a constant irritation in my Surface 2 ownership experience due to the continued and chronic lack of quality apps.

Apple need to do that? Apple is riding the momentum that they've built up over the past 5-7 years. They don't need to chase anyone. They DO need to be aware of the landscape and consider what if anything needs to be adjusted.

For some people, the iPad already is a replacement. The beauty of the iOS/iPad foundation is that Apple needs to do very little to expand that sphere... a keyboard cover utilizing Apple's design aesthetics, and support for bluetooth pointing devices. That would go a long way for many people and doesn't require the purchase of next gen hardware (though from a business perspective it makes sense to offer the hook/carrot to encourage customers to buy/upgrade)

You're assuming that Steve Jobs was being honest when he made those statements about a 7" tablet.

I have been having RAM problems with my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7 and only has 1GB of ram before it ran very fast and no lags and had about over 20% to 50% most of the time in my RAM booster app.

But now most of the time it is always around 10% less than free 100 MB of 1GB of RAM and it is always laggy and buggy and every time i go out of a app i have to WAIT to for the home sceens to reload again and i never had this problem before.

It is fast when i restart the tablet and get back to normal but i don't really want to do that every time.

I have been uninstalling apps and have about 1.2GB of storage space but that don 't make a diffrence.

When i do a full RAM boost it only goes up to about 15/18% and after it goes down very fast and i have tried task killers but i don't know if they are working or not.

This is getting very annoying and i need to get this RAM issue fixed and get it back to normal and the factory reset is not a option as i can't bothered to install all of the apps again.!!

Can someone help me please? Will installing a launcher fix the RAM issue? What is the best RAM booster?

I believe it is a product line that they do care about a lot. The iPhone is the meat of their income but iPads help a lot too. And, yeah, the apps and ecosystem are WAY better on the iPad but that's a huge part of the usability and enjoyment. The safari tab reload thing is quite overblown around here and most users have zero issues with safari at all.

RAM is just a number. I've used galaxy tabs and while they have their merits and work decently they are NOT faster nor do they run any better. Supposedly that extra RAM should be the big deal but I guess it's not. Android is bloated and inefficient so they use all that RAM anyways.

The iPad is a solid product and apple will keep improving them as they go along. Like they have so far. The Air is the best iPad by FAR.

7 inch tablets are still terrible. That is why the iPad Mini exists, and that's why companies started making them in the slightly bigger size. I mean, they're still not better than the big iPad when it comes to screen real estate, but they're much, much more usable. The majority of iPad apps don't work in a smaller screen than that.

It solved a problem for those of us who didn't want a huge tablet, but still wanted one. The experience of using SketchBook Pro on a Kindle Fire, vs a first gen iPad Mini, for example... It's the same program, the same tools, but you have more space to use them efficiently.

I think Steve would have been happy that his team were able to solve a problem like that.

I think it's time for more RAM, especially as we now have that Metal framework for 3D graphics, but I don't think it's going to solve the Safari issue. Funnily enough my Safari crashes on OS X, but not with my iPad Mini with iOS, and there's a 3.5GB difference in RAM.

Its sarcasm. No its not a joke, and Apple is serious about the iPad. Hardware-wise, Apple wont be in the same level as other tablets on PCs, so the specs of other tablets will always look better. What really matter is the user interface. "iOS" and "Android" are all you will see on paper. Once you use iOS, and feel the fluidity and refinement of the software, its kind of no contest IMO. Granted some users care more about being able to do out of the box tasks that the iPad wont support, but that is what jailbreaks are for.

Because the RAM issue was fixed a long time ago on my old Galaxy Tab 2 7 and i just bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 a month ago and i don't have any RAM issues on it.

And this thread is a discussion about weather Apple is serious about the ipad or not.

And no this is not a troll thread, why would i create a troll thread because i am not that kind of person that makes troll threads and there is no reason do to.

Not sure whether or not the the OP is trolling but let me say that we use and train medical professionals everyday on the IPad. It is being used successfully in open heart surgeries all the way to tele-pharmacies. You can argue all day about the question of RAM but I can tell you we have never experienced any of the negative issues you mention. Our experience has been nothing short of amazing. The iPad is helping to save the lives of hospital patients every day. For us we have never had Safari crash or experience ram issues. The physicians who are using ipad in open heart surgeries embrace its capabilities.

Don't critique a device unless you have actually used one. And by your own admission you haven't.

Yes the iPad mini has on paper inferior specs but in general use it's a lot smoother than the Note Pro. I like my note pro but the Touchwiz lag, and stutters are ever present.

Better specs do not always equate to a better end user experience.

I haven't owned an ipad since the ipad 3, but I can tell you that Safari on it crashed ALL the time. It wouldn't run many tabs open, and when I went to graphics intensive pages I would see checkerboarding for several seconds until the page loaded. God I hated safari with a passion back then. I'm sure it's much better now with the newer hardware, but in my experience it wasn't that long ago that the ipad hardware couldn't keep up with my needs.

You need to own an ipad before you can make these radical claims. First hand experience is a far better indicator than just random posts on the internet. And I have no doubt any sites you were reading were android centric and full of usual vitriol & ignorance.

I'm curious, can you make a list of which apps are necessary to have on a tablet for you that are not in the app store. No trolling, I'm genuinely curious as it would help to shape my opinion a bit more.

Yes i agree about the Touchwiz lag on my Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 because when i swipe though the Magazine UX always the 1st time it will be delayed by a second and when i swipe down the news feed to update it but after that it is always good.

Anyway i don't really use the Magazine UX i would rather use the normal Android home sceens because i like it better.

Can you tell if is your Ipad mini faster in doing most demanding tasks like Video editing and playing hardcore games like NFS, FIFA without lag compared to your Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 despite the big difference in specs?

I really don't know what you're talking about. iPad Air is one of the best performing if not the best performing tablet out there. A7 processor is a beast, graphics are great etc. Only thing where iPad is behind the competition is the RAM. And I hardly see that this is a huge issue.

I think that those Android tablets with more RAM has way more performance hiccups than the iPad Air has with only 1gb of RAM.

I wonder when will people realize the fact that the spec sheet doesn't matter that much as far as the actual user experience and performance is flawless.

Samsung video editor is vastly clunkier than iMovie which is far more polished and better on the mini.

Games are much of a muchness, however there are a couple of games I've noticed slowdown on such as Rayman Fiesta Run on the Note Pro 12.2 and yet the mini runs it at what seems 60fps without issues..

Other than benefits of multitasking windows and I enjoy the spen features, the mini is for me in day to day use a much smoother experience despite the spec differential.

Samsung discount tablets? Not where I am they don't. Even the note 10.1 is still orginal price.

Ipad is great and of course means a lot to Apple. I just would rather have storage via sd card than pay stupid amount for a higher GB model.

The Samsung experience on tablets are great as they are on the ipad

To be honest its only the ran that is lacking in the current iPads isn't it ? Isn't the graphics and processor as good/even better than the competition ? And the screens are among the best, as is battery life. And the tablet apps on the iPad are on a total different level compared to android apps because they are actually design for tablets and not mobile apps that are stretched
