To be honest its only the ran that is lacking in the current iPads isn't it ? Isn't the graphics and processor as good/even better than the competition ? And the screens are among the best, as is battery life. And the tablet apps on the iPad are on a total different level compared to android apps because they are actually design for tablets and not mobile apps that are stretched

I am the wrong person to answer that .. I gave my iPad to my wife ... I am using "non" Apple ones exclusively now ..

Yes.

Processor is actually ahead of competition.
Graphics are among the best.
Screen is one of the best out there.
Battery life is class leading.
iPad App Store is WAY ahead of competition.

Only thing where iPad is lacking is the amount of RAM. Funny thing is that it's not even bottle necking the device.

iPad is absolutely the best tablet experience available. Of course this is subjective and different people prefer different things but in overall I believe iPad offers the most solid and refined tablet experience.

I'm typing on my inferior iPad rMini to this ridiculous thread.
My inferior spec'd rMini is sooo smooth and sooo fast compared to any other branded overspecked tablet that a reply is silly. Yet here I am. I guess the OP's higher specked devices need all that horsepower to keep the their operating systems stuttering along.
I really enjoy the smoothness if my ios devices. I can't remember my last crash. :)
I've owned them all, I've kept only the ios devices for a reason.
What is the OP talking about again?

There are some very biased answers on here since this is a Apple forum,

If i asked this in a Android forum i bet i would be getting far more positive and diffrent answers than this Apple biased forum that is full of hardcore Apple fans that is very biased against Android or Windows tablets.

And i am not against Apple with there Ipad and as i have a Ipod touch and it is good and a great music media player.

And i was wondering is Apple serious about the Ipad, i thought i post a thread about it in this forum because there are lot of users that have ipads so i wanted get your opinions about this topic.

But most of you are haven't answer to this topic instead you just giving me some stick after i talking the Ipad a bit about the RAM issue and talking about other tablets that is slightly better in some things
than the Ipad.

Why some of you think that i am trolling? because i am not trolling as i just wondered is Apple serious about the Ipad?

And again if a Mod is reading can you tell me why this thread has moved to Alternatives to iOS and iOS Devices from the Ipad sub forum as this is mostly ipad related

Can i ask you to move this back this thread back to the Ipad sub forum please?

Of course that really does go without saying.

I will say for the most part the iPad is a better product thanks to the apps, design, features and services. Does that the android tablet or win8 tablet is inferior, no it just means I like the iPad better :)

I'll give you a hint - it wasn't in this forum when it started ;).

Oh I see, so a mod WANTED it to be a troll thread .. fair enough :D

I think its the only thing they've got going for them. Its the only case they can make to try and dispute the iPads

Not quite .. but let's face it, here at MR it doesn't matter what Android users use as explanation why they use Android ... it will always cause 1000s of replies discussing the same rubbish over and over again ... with Android users hating IOS users and vice versa :)

The integration in ios8 with osx has made things better for ipad and im perfectly sure apple will sell more ipads and macbooks this year as a result. Microsoft and google must be questioning their resolve with things like SP3 and android with its stretched out apps. The real question would be how serious are google and microsoft :p

This to me just sounds like you only want answers that affirm your own beliefs rather than actually listen to the overwhelming thoughts of the folks here, most of whom are actually android users not Apple hardcore fans as you label them.

Seriously if you don't like the answer, don't ask the question ...

Wow. Such a troll post.

If you asked on an Android forum they would mock the hell out of it, is that not biased?

If you asked this question on an Android forum you'd likely get a less biased response, yeah right hahaha!

I think you'll find that the vast majority of people here own an iOS device. The useful part about the 'alternatives' section is most people own or have owned iOS, and Android devices. I know I have owned both so feel I can relate to both sides of the coin. Of course you will get biased views, but you will also get opinions from people who know.

Have you joined Mac Rumors because you are critical of Apple products or are considering buying one? Or, are you just here for reactions to your posts?

I own an iPad Air and had some issues with crashes, but this was all sorted last time I updated. The iPad is by far the best tablet I have used and it pays to have hands on experience before pulling rumoured problems off internet threads. Yes Apple are serious about the iPad and specs do not look as impression against other tablets but the OS runs pretty fluidly and thesefore doesn't need it. You are paying for the OS rather than the hardware.

Sorry, but even the Apple haters here would probably agree that the top quote above is delusional at best.

iPad is still the best tablet on the market. Nothing else even comes close.

I've tried many others and still prefer my iPad.

About the only alternative I would consider is a surface pro 3, but that's not really the same thing either.

Samsung discount tablets? Not where I am they don't. Even the note 10.1 is still orginal price.

Ipad is great and of course means a lot to Apple. I just would rather have storage via sd card than pay stupid amount for a higher GB model.

The Samsung experience on tablets are great as they are on the ipad

Just take a look at BB's website. Even the rep could not believe the prices. They really do not have a choice, they have plenty of them sitting in a cage and with the S series coming out now besides.

The experience is not as good. I had enough of them to know. Never kept one past the return date.

Not sure how anyone considers Apple not being serious with their tablets versus Samsung's throwing darts till they get one right.

The Ipad Air and Mini retina specs are no where as good compared to high end tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro line up, (rumoured) Nexus 8.

And the Ipad Air/Rmini only have 1GB of RAM and it seems it is a problem because of Apps keeps crashing and Safari tabs keeps reloading due to lack of RAM and other tablets like the Galaxy Tab Pro line up have 2GB of RAM, it is great at multitasking, and it has extra features like the multi window that the Ipad don't have.

The only 2 things that the Ipad has over Android tablets is the very big range of apps and the quality of the apps in the App store but the Google Play Store and Windows app store are getting close to the level of quality of apps that the ipad has and the popularity of the Ipad over the world.

But i am wondering is Apple serious about the Ipad? Are Apple aware that they need to make the Ipad to be on the same level as the competition like Samsung, Google tablets?

Will this be the year that the next gen Ipad Air/Mini 2 finally have more RAM? because they still haven't upgraded the RAM since the Ipad 3 and be more of a computer replacement like high end tablets.

I really hope Apple are serious the Ipad and making it into more of a computer replacement for most people.

I am pretty sure the Ipad have the potential to be way better in the future than it is at the moment.

Would it be a different story if Steve Jobs was still the CEO of Apple? and what Jobs would of done different about the Ipad than the current CEO Tim Cook? I know Steve Jobs was against the idea of making a smaller Ipad and bashing about 7inch tablets.

Apple is joking :D , that why thy salled more than 100,000,000 :)

Must be just the US mate as in the UK most places I've seen there aren't many that are discounted.

I liked my iPad but love my note tablets. Perfect for my needs. Stylus is used Alot as is the SD card option . experience wise it's been great.

Here's my device background:

Android: HTC Desire Z, ASUS Eee Pad Transformer (with keyboard dock) and Samsung Galaxy S3.
iOS: iPhone 5S, iPad Mini

I'll compare the Eee Pad Transformer with the iPad Mini. These devices are a year apart. Since we are talking about tablets, I'll use these as references.

The Transformer is a first generation Android tablet. It came with Honeycomb and was updated to ICS. My experience with this device is that overall, the hardware is great and the software is very lacking. I stopped using it because it was just buggy. Sound would cut out or the home screen icons would disappear. The only way to fix it was to reboot which took a while. I bought this primarily because of the keyboard dock. If not for that, I would have gotten the iPad 2 which was my second choice after doing various test drives.

The iPad Mini is a newer device, so I would expect it to be better and smoother. I have only been using it since this weekend. I did have one app crash. Other than that, it's been pretty good. No issues with Safari or Google Chrome when surfing the web. When comparing web surfing to Android devices, the iPad Mini wins hands down. For apps that don't need to load web pages, they are about the same.

I plan to give a more thorough comparison probably next week sometime. It is probably better to compare the iPad Mini with the Galaxy S3 because both devices came out in the same year. The performance is similar on both of these devices, but the web page loading is better on the iPad.

I had a thread about the iPhone 5S moved here as well. I'm not sure why. I think it may be that if you are doing any type of comparison between iOS and something else, it gets moved here. I just started using an iPhone 5S a couple of months ago. Before that, it was Android devices, so when I talk about the iPhone, I would compare it with my previous experience which was primarily Android devices.

When my thread was moved here, it seemed to have taken on a life of its own.

For tablets I prefer using my iPad mini, I must admit that I don't find it under specced or under powered, storage IMHO is expensive but I can live with a small amount and use the cloud. For phones however, I prefer Android and my Samsung Galaxy S5. :)

Apple rules with tablets. I mean I find the iOS experience limited on a main smartphone where I need freedom but for a tablet you just want it to run smooth and ipads deliver on that part more than any other tablet.

I don't think it's delusional, just misguided. Apple is a smart company who knows just how much to improve a product, and just how much to save for a future iteration. After all they pioneered the era of "S" updates. "If it ain't broke don't fix" it gets translated to "If it sells don't upgrade it".

Name ONE non-Apple tablet that has a better experience? ONLY one? Yeah, good luck with that...

What's up with Android users being spec whores?

Thats a loaded question. It depends on what you are trying to do. So it depends on you as an individual and your needs.

We still use Android tablets at my work because it can email multi files and file types that iOS can't handle. So in that regard and if that was your main use then every Android tablet offers a better user experience then an iPad.

I returned my iPad Air because of safari crashing in iOS 7.0 seriously effecting my work flow. It was literally costing me time thus money. And in 7.1 tabs reloading still which was causing the same problem. So I returned it. I'm still using my work provided Xoom (yes, first Android tablet ever) and never experience those issues albeit its not a very fluid experience (but in Androids defense its an old tablet).

They are. They're also profit driven so know that any minimal change would be enough to sell millions more units. Because if that, they have no incentive to make the job harder for themselves by using top new technology.

And when you consider the vast majority of consumers buy phones and tablets for the same purposes, it seems even more stupid to innovate to a point of saturation like we have seen other manufacturers do in recent years.
