Owners of Mac Studio, do you think getting AppleCare+ is worth it for Mac studio? Just trying to save some money :). i always got apple care on my macs. I have so many apple devices, ipad pro, ipad mini, iphone, mac mini, macbook. apple tv. the only time i actually needed to do a warranty repair was in 2011 when my iphone 4S volume up button broke so they replaced the phone or repaired it i cant remember.
Anyway, i keep getting apple care on iphone and mac computers (nothing else) and have not used warranty once in 11 years. ( hope im not jynxing myself now). Apple products are just so well made i guess. I am tempted to not shell out for AppleCare+ for mac studio that i am getting in a few days. what do you all think? (the whining fan noise issue worries me but it seems from everyone's testing its just a design thing with the holes)

It was £149 to add it to my Studio Ultra which is such a small percentage of the cost of the computer itself that I think it was worth it.

Well, "is it a must" and "is it worth it" are two different questions. I got it on my studio; I thought it was worth it. Especially compared to the price of AppleCare for the MacBooks, the price of AppleCare for the studio seemed an easy yes.

Yes - those that develop the loud whining/humming sound are certainly going to agree… get it is you can afford it… they have locked down the boards on these… so let a RAM module or and SSD go bad and anything to do with the GPU and you’re going to be SOL…

No. I had it on my desk and could just about hear the fans themselves, a dull whirring noise. I now have it mounted under the desk and to all intents and purposes, it's silent. I've had an audio spectrum analyser near it and there is no whine/whistle around 2.4kHz.

I seem to remember Apple Care Plus providing for on-site service. That alone is worth the price.

The Studio is (in my opinion) not much more than "a big Mac Mini" (with more power, of course).

The Mini line has proven to be the most reliable of all Macs over the long term.

I didn't buy AppleCare for either of my Minis. Both did just fine.
If I was to get a Mac Studio, I wouldn't bother with it, either.

With the "new normal" of an integrated SoC and soldered RAM/SSD, I would say AppleCare+ is a wise choice as insurance against any hardware failures; just make sure you keep regular backups...!

Whether it is worth it or not is totally up to you. If you feel you need the extra piece of mind and you can afford it, why not?

I'd recommend it for any 1st generation device.

While it's not my dream machine, I'm looking closely at a Studio Ultra.

If I pull the trigger, I'll definitely buy the AC+.

As mentioned by others, as a first generation device that can't be serviced by a user the Studio is a prime candidate for extended coverage, especially after I factor in the additional cost of enhanced memory and storage I'd want.

My view is not to buy the one and done AC+, but the ongoing version ($x every year).

I say this after having my Mac Mini 2018, and one month after AC+ coverage ending, the Bluetooth goes out, requiring a logic board replacement.

all of my future Macs will have AC+ yearly. We typically keep our macs 3-5 years, so the marginal cost over one and done isn’t bad.

Regarding AppleCare+, I thought you could get the monthly/yearly AppleCare+ just before (I think it was 30 days before) your 3 year version runs out and continue on that. Did I miss something?

I wasn’t offered this… to be fair, hasn’t realized it was a thing, so I didn’t check either.

Rightly or wrongly, I didn't go for it on my Ultra. I don't think we have the same monthly option in the UK.
The statutory warranty in the UK is a lot stronger than in the US, so Applecare is a harder sell, esp. on a desktop where there is less chance of accidental damage.

I think extended warranty/no extended warranty is something you have to consider across all your tech purchases: I’ve gone without extended warranties on a lot of products that haven’t failed (or in the case of my 2011 MBP, were fixed under a free recall scheme) so I’ve saved enough money over the years to cover the cost of a non-statutory repair on the studio.

Yep. A fool and his money. But apple loves it when you do.
When I look at the work I've had done under Applecare, I'd consider it a wise choice. It's definitely saved me money.

Or am I misunderstanding and you're not suggesting that everyone who buys Applecare is a fool?

I have never purchased AppleCare and I've been using Apple computers since the early 1980s.

I am exceptionally careful with my electronics devices since working on Tube electronics.
