I only rarely get Apple Care. For a personal base model Mac Studio at home I definitely wouldn't bother. However, if it was a high end machine in a professional work environment and I'm charging it to the company, I would.

Note though I always buy with a credit card that provides extended warranty. I get an extra 1 year of warranty through the credit card company for no extra cost. That's been enough peace of mind for me. Caveat is the extra 1 year of warranty doesn't apply if I buy a refurb, including for Apple refurbs. That doesn't really bother me though since I qualify for education pricing which, in the case of the Mac Studio here, is the same price as the refurbs.

Will Apple stores in the UK handle warranty and support for machines purchased from other retailers if they have AC+ ?

Whether it is worth it or not is totally up to you. If you feel you need the extra piece of mind and you can afford it, why not?

Because it’s stupid. There’s a reason apple evaluates employees by who upsells its ate up warranties. If you want peace of mind, then invest at least 20-30% of income.

I too have not purchased Apple Care for any devices or systems (since G3 Pismo days). A few of the used ones I purchased came with some remaining from the previous owner that transferred.

The only repairs I've had done were under Apple warranty or recall.

One of the annual reports from Warren Buffett about 10-15 years ago had a long piece on why the insurance business is a heads I win, tails you lose business. I have not been able to find the particular annual report but it's basically because anything that isn't fixed goes to the bottom line. If repair costs exceed premiums for a year, they just raise premiums in subsequent years. In Apple's case, they can work to fix the problems that cause failures too. In the meantime, they can invest the premium money loaned to them as an interest-free loan.

Hardware that ist not reparable by your own.

SSD defective = hard to find spare parts = total damage
RAM defective = not changeable = total damage
CPU defective = not changeable = total damage

A longer warrenty would be a good idea.

To each their own.

In the past 20+ years, my approach has been: if a personal computer system runs error free within the manufacturer "limited" warranty period (one year in the case of Apple), the odds are high that it will continue to do so for a long time.

Never had a G3 Power Book, G4 Cube or Tower, MacBook, MacBook Pro, Mini or Studio fail (had to replace one battery in a G4 PowerBook and 2012 MBP that were both ready to be decommissioned). Have not dropped, broken or spilled liquids on any either.

Still running two 2011 Mini's 24x7 since purchase (when they first became available on Apple's refurbished site).

Manufacturing has improved dramatically during that time frame so MTBF's are even longer nowadays for hard drives, storage and memory. No need or justification for AppleCare in my use cases.

As it goes, to each their own. Look I get it, 99.9% of stuff I buy I do not buy in to the extended warranty sales pitch. Truth be told you will probably never use it. But I actually have seen people buy and use the extended Apple Care Warranties so at least to some there is a need for it. Especially for those who are not so technically inclined. Besides with these new Apple Silicon systems it's not like can upgrade or replace anything on them yourself.

I leave mine on 24x7x365 I have a UPS for it, it performs work for me so I figured an extra $160 over 3yrs is a worthy investment.

I never paid for AppleCare. Only two Macs from the ten that I bought became defective, but after more than 5 years.

Ages ago, when these warranties first became a "thing", I worked at a store that sold small electronic devices.
The only people I ever recommend them to were people who liked to jog and used Walkman type cassette players - people who would be likely to use them.

When they asked why they should get such a thing, I told them: "How long did your last Walkman last?" and "Which one are you on now?"

It became obvious to them that the 10% cost (later 20%) for 2-year coverage turned out to be a pretty good deal, considering the abuse these devices got.

I have very little hesitation to get it on an iPhone - I tend to like the bigger displayed Pro versions - due to the accident coverage. For a laptop that gets hauled around a lot - good too. For a desktop - I'm sorta hesitant. Only one Mac we bought we passed on AppleCare (iMac G5) and that one was a lemon (We've owned 11 desktops since 2001 or so). My new Studio is a 1st gen device and I know the soldered in RAM, CPU and locked SSD storage means if it breaks out of warranty, I have a huge repair cost or a nice paperweight. 3 years is good enough to get me to the bottom of the bathtub curve. I tend to keep my desktops for 6+ years.

I've also bought a MacBook Air & Time Capsule as a gift to my father-in-law and that for sure came with AppleCare+, as it was a machine I used to wean him off of Windows. That went surprisingly well, and he loves the new computer. Last thing I wanted was a potential issue souring him on the brand. I live too far away to help out, so I wanted to make sure he'd be covered if any problems came about.

I have used apple computers since TIGER

in the past I have some times got apple care but only once have I used it the rest they failed out of the covered time frame. not sure about the studio max but I have 50 days to decide yes I am on the fence over this .

At least its not like some extended GT that you pony up each year ( think Miele ) then after ten years when you could need it they chop you off and will not renew

I got AppleCare on my Mac Mini, and of course the Bluetooth died one month after the coverage ended.

in the future, I’ll probably do the month to month option that is now offered.
