I didn't mean put away $3.50 each month.

I think the OP is better served taking care of replacement cost outright, should something happen. If he can't pay for a replacement phone outright, that says to me that he is living beyond his means and paying extra for loss and theft doesn't help the financial station.
That's rather judgmental. I can pay for a replacement phone outright, but I still pay the extra $3 for theft/loss protection.

I am being pragmatic not judgmental. In my opinion, it makes no sense to spend extra money on theft and loss when you already have money put aside. It looks like we aren't going to agree and that is fine. I am not looking to have a continuous debate.

We don't have to agree.

However, accusing people of living beyond their means is the antithesis of 'not looking to have a continuous debate' in the world of Internet forums.

It would take ~24 years of saving that $3.50/month to self-insure the theft/lost penalty of paying for a relatively new iPhone.

I'm sure that at least once in those 24 years, I'm bound to have my iPhone stolen or lost in a Uber, etc.
But apple
Doesn’t offer just theft for 3.50 a month it’s in addition to the $10.

Personally I do think the regular Apple Care Plus as well as the addition theft and loss is worth it for the peace of mind. You may never need to use it but if you do then it’s going to save you a lot of money. I use my phone quite a bit while walking outside and there’s always a chance I might have my phone grabbed out of my hand. If you get the two year advanced coverage and you sell your phone you can at least get the balance of the coverage refunded.

yes, the peace of mind is probably worth it!

at the same time, it gives peace of mind and piece of your money to Tim Cook so they can sleep better, knowing that there will be a steady stream of free money coming in every month from millions of cash cows(edit: sorry... I meant loyal Apple customers) :)
