The concern is not about if a seller can sell something they've legitimately obtained for less than it cost them to obtain it. The concern is about whether the product was legitimately obtained? If Apple, for whatever reason, deems a particular Apple Care entitlement was not legitimately obtained from them then they could, and likely would, refuse to honor it. A second party buyer may not learn there is a problem until they attempt to use it which could be well after the sale.

There are legitimate sales and there are illegitimate ones. Only a buyer can make the decision if the risk is worth the lower cost.

That's exactly why I kept it a simple, safe but costly AC from the MAS!

~ Cheers

I believe there have even been some cases of counterfeit -boxes- printed up for AppleCare being sold.

If I needed AppleCare, I would buy -only- from a known dealer (such as B&H).

But that's just me.

Printing true looking Apple Care boxes is only economical if the scam is being made in very great numbers.
Otherwise the thieves would lose money instead of making it from their fraud.
I would be hesitant to buy just a number from an unknown seller since it could have been already used for a registration, but a sealed Apple Care box seems to me safe enough.
In my past experience once Apple registered with the number of the Apple Care my device in their files there was never any question about how, to what price or from which seller I acquired that Apple Care.
It simply figured linked to the serial number of my Apple device and my own data in Apple's files and was instantly seen and accepted by any Apple tech contacted about that device.
Of course I cannot tell anything besides my own experience.
Scams are always possible but to print true looking Apple Care boxes does not seem to me worth while for any thief.
There must be easier ways to make much more money in illegal and criminal ways than doing that.

To keep this topic updated. I used to buy few AppleCare on eBay couple years ago and personally did not get any issue on registration or for repairs. Apple did not ask for anything.

Now process seems to have changed a little bit.

I just bought on eBay for $154 ($249 retail) from a seller thats seems serious. Based on feedback.

Here the process:

- Seller e-mailed me registration code + box serial number.
- Seller e-mailed proof of purchase from his company. The receipt shows $249 total payed in cash. So I guess, that's illegal. That's not what I paid.

Then seller told me I will have to upload proof of purchase upon registration of AppleCare. That's what happened when I submit registration code and my computer serial number:

We apologize for any inconvenience, but registration for this product requires additional documentation. Please submit your proof of purchase for review by Apple. If your registration is accepted, your product will be covered.

So I uploaded the receipt he sent me, and now I'm waiting Apple confirmation within 72 hours.

I've purchased AppleCare once in the past from a seller on eBay for my old 15" MacBook Pro and didn't have a problem registering it, but that being said I never actually used it and I know their policies have changed a bit.

Today I'd only purchase AppleCare directly from Apple or from somewheres that is authorized such as Staples, there's nothing worse than wasting money (and the gut sinking feeling that comes along with it when you realize that your warranty isn't valid).

That is definitely new. I bought AppleCare at an Apple store back in 2013 and did not have to do that, but maybe that's because I bought it from Apple and they have a record of AppleCare's they have sold. I have also bought AppleCare in the past from reputable sellers, and Apple had never asked for proof of purchase then.

So didn't get any problem. Apple replied by requesting again registration code and proof of purchase of my product as well. Got registered the day after. :)

Extra copy

Hi everyone!

In january 2015 i order my applecare plan threw apple canada.
UPS have shown that they had delivered and it never did. Call Apple to explain what happen and they have ship me another one.

Now recently just about 3 weeks ago I received another AppleCare plan box. I look at the paper and it was the one that was suppose to be ship originally. I call UPS and ask them what the hell. Turn out they found it in the lost bin.

Anyway could not understand how is that possible since it says it was deliver and it was never because it was in their lost bin.

Well now i got this brand new seal Applecare box. It is for Macbook Pro 15 inch Retina display.

My question is : Would it be safe to sell it? Or did Apple cancel the original shipping box and now the serial number in the box is perhaps void?

Dont want to sell is the serial is now void since every box has a tag to scan on.

I dont know, advices?

Thank you

I had bought apple care, along with my mac, both from the same seller in the past, without problem. And it was really valid, I used apple care protection and I was covered properly.

But with everything I read here, I am a little bit anxious for future purchase.
