I would say it's worth it. I personally found the campaign(solo) quite entertaining and multi-player, however laggy it may be right now, to be pretty fun. Then again, the only previous COD game I've played was World at War, but still, I love the currency system and the overall experience to be enjoyable. Once they fully work out the kinks with lag and all, I'm sure it'll be even better.

Edit: I'm currently playing it in bootcamp right now with a 2010 15-inch Macbook Pro. Not to hijack the thread or anything, but how's everyone's experience with multi-player going along? I personally get way too many "stutters" to have it be fully enjoyable.

Anyone had any issues installing it on bootcamp? I have windows 7 (x64) and can't get the game to start. I get a DirectX error....

Exactly. Call of duty is a video game. Battlefield is a war simulator. Personally I prefer the latter.
Battlefield is a video game. If you're looking for a war simulator something like ArmA II fits the bill far better.

I get stutters on my 2009 Mac Pro eight core. The Steam implementation really really sucks right now - huge performance issues across the board. Eventually they'll sort it out, but for now your "stutters" are probably game related and not machine related.

Get IT!

im getting black ops for Christmas iv heard nothing but good reviews i played mw2 and that was one of the worst in the series dont get the tritton headset tho and if you are getting one get the tritton axpro not 720

No offence (not meaning to troll here) but I found both MW2 and BO pretty short, the campaigns on both are by far to short and easy to complete.

Though they have added a new storyline they overall I don't think added much to the franchise. I find it rather crappy when you buy a new game and get it "knocked over" within the first weekend in hard difficulty...

As for the multiplayer, you've WAW and MW2 you've pretty much played BO. Personally I was expecting a little more from BO, but overall I've found it rather disappointing...

I was about to say this. I have BO for the 360 and was bummed about how short the campaign mode ended up being. What was there was really good, but for $60 I expected a bit more. I guess I just have to stick with RPGs from now on and assume that games like BO are mainly selling for the multiplayer aspect.

Too bad New Vegas is still a buggy mess. I'll just wait for them to fix the bugs and pick it up next summer for $20 :)

I don't think ops will be at $20 next summer, let's see Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 on amazon still at $46.74
Even 52.99 on Igxe, anyway, they do online delivery, maybe that is why a little expensive.

I knew it. it's all about damn advertisement. isn't it? I am glad not to buy it. I have compared with MW2. then I found that BO isn't special at all. $60? come on. it's not worth. I am stick with MW2 which is more smooth, still gives me nice play. by the way, I really hate new vegas ****. I just sold it already two weeks ago. I will never buy any game from Betheda. they make really crappy games. unbelievable.

i Honestly thought my GPU was fried when i played Black ops. I turned on multithreading and turned al effects to "0" in config and still runs terribly even at 800x600. I just reinstalled MW2 to see if that was ok and that runs silky smooth even a high res.....shame shame shame.

I've never played Call of Duty Modern Warfare before, but was wondering if Black Ops is really worth buying. For those who already have it, is it really that good? I like FPS games like Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Left 4 Dead 2, and Quake Live. And if I went to buy Black Ops, should I also get a PS3 gaming headset like Tritton AX 720, which seems to be overpriced in Canada from Best Buy at $169.99. (Worth that price?) If not, should I just continue playing the games I love already and get a SteelSeries 7H USB headset for my mac? And is using a PS3 controller to play a FPS console game much harder, compared to using a mice and a mousepad?

I am replaying Medal of Honor now for the 3d time an I still like it. Have completed about 2 hours on Black Ops and I like it as well. Just find the interrogation scene between games too long and is distracting me from the flow of the game. However it is as good as ever and very recommendable.
Regards

Played it last night on the PS3 for a few hours at a friends house.

Have to admit, major disappointment. Graphics really disappointed me, and levels looked very drab. There is drab that is meant to be realism, such as dingy rooms, smoked cities and general ruin, then there is drab that looks like poor textures, heavy fog, and poor rendering.

Thats not to say its a bad game. They have vastly improved things in terms of the balance of the overall game. And there is a wealth of extras/options that can keep you tuning until your hearts content.

But I found multi just so.... dull, or something. It really did feel like World at War, only on steroids, with a bit of a face lift and more Modern Weapons.

Four of us split screened a few level, Nuketown, Jungle etc etc, and it just did not have the grip on us that MW did. I will admit, the Zombie level had us entertained, but alas, only 2 player split screen.

The perfect marriage would be Black Ops balance and progression and perk system, but mixed into MW2 pace, engine and over all playability.

I can understand some peoples frustration with MW2, but once you figure out the tubers, or even adapt to a game type that suits your need better, you really realize what a gem of a game it is.

Wow, I'm really surprised at the negative views in this thread!

I think Black Ops is way, way better than MW2 and MW. I feel like if you think of it as more of a refinement than anything else, you'll enjoy it more. I find the pace and the exclusion of some of the sillier perks to be vast improvements. I also think the levels and wager game modes are amazing.

Maybe I'm just jaded after playing the horrible, HORRIBLE attempt at FPS that was called Medal of Honor. My housemates and I couldn't believe what we were experiencing when we played it. It was terrible.

Call of Duty black ops

I tried bootcamp , putting in a ms and playing mw2 and a few others, but had the same dramas i always had with pc's, crashing , hanging or oops some system fault.
When are the Game makers gonna wake up !!! once you've had a Mac you never go back not even for a game so... MAke the damn games for mac oor miss out on sales .... its a no brainer !!!

Is it much harder? Not with console staples such as auto-aim, fewer players, and a slower pace. But aiming is far less precise and offers you less control over using a keyboard and mouse. I've had a lot of experience with both methods and I'll always go for keyboard/mouse over a controller.

Less players than pc?

Out of the estimated 7 Million Black ops copies sold so far. 50ish % were xbox360, 35ish% were ps3 and the reamining were split between pc, wii and ds....

I'm not referring to the total number of people playing, I'm referring to the number of people you can have in a single match.

Unfortunately, Activision has hampered that for PCs now for no good reason. :(

don't be surprised. everybody has different taste even gaming review gave it a high score. if you play console, you don't have a problem. but if you play PC or through the bootcamp on mac, then you will find lots of issues. just like call of duty 2, the game isn't really optimized for playing smoothly. texture, graphic are not impressive at all. I feel that BO seems 'rip off' of MW2. I even think that battlefield bad company2 is much nicer. I don't think that I will find the best FPS for a while. MW2 is the best. maybe I will change when I will get 'tom clancy's ghost recon future soldier' next year.

No, you're wrong. PC is still dominating gaming market. Mac is nothing. even I have two macs, I always go back to my PC to play games, or other works. actually, whatever mac or PC, platform doesn't matter to me. I like both windows 7 and mac os x. however, if you want to play, you don't have any choice. well, you would say 'mac games'? but how many games can you find? I don't think you will find. I mean new games. I don't play old game no more than 1-1.6 years. I like to play games. so you react like a child.

Ah yea, 6v6 is pretty small. I think at a time on pc they had 12v12? Now its the same as consoles.

For Call of Duty 4 it was 32/32. Pretty insane - surviving was a miracle when I started playing MP.

so install directx that is included on the install disc.

It's installed in your app (programs) folder. Two installers you need to open as admin to install.

Macs can play PC games via bootcamp.

Sorry but I think Black OPS is crap, if you can beat the first level on hard without firing a shot the designer/art directors have done a bad job.

The *ONLY* somewhat redeming quality of the game is the zombie mission....
