Do you still have your purchase email with the license key?

Alternatively, copy the file ~/Library/Application Support/DriveDx/DriveDx.driveDxLicense from old to new Mac. Restart DriveDX (maybe reboot).
Thanks. I bought DriveDx through the App Store and the receipt from 2016 is still in my iCloud account along with everything else I've ever downloaded from the App Store. However, that receipt contains no key code, and I can't find an email that does either. I recycled my old Mac last year and reinstalled the earlier version of DriveDx last year as well. It worked before I upgraded to MacOS Ventura. However, the license file you've told me to find is not in the folder at the end of the path name you sent. Any other suggestions?

For me DriveDx stopped working after 04/08/2023.

On one of the tech reviews sites listed on Bynary Fruits "DriveDx is recommended by" Gizmodo, DriveDx was linked to the Apple Store.

I've send BF an email, will report back asap.

While immature, prone to errors file systems like APFS can contribute to a hard drive's premature demise, there is nothing to be repaired regarding SMART.

Apple: Check if a Mac disk is about to fail https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchlp2548/mac
Apple supplies default S.M.A.R.T. data for their own internal NVMe drives on Apple Silicon Macs. I’ve heard but haven’t investigated myself that any NVMe drive connected by Thunderbolt is also supported but I’m not sure about USB 4. USB 3 and earlier are not supported and require a third-party device driver (kext). The security on recent macOS versions make kexts problematic and few companies will bother supporting them.

I’ve been meaning to investigate internal and Thunderbolt NVMe on Intel. I don’t know the current status. Support for older SATA and spinning rust hard drives is probably completely custom and you would need a sophisticated tool like smartmontools to cover a large variety of hard drive vendors.

Replacing DriveDX for new Macs and only SSDs would be relatively easy but unless the smartmontools license is permissive I wouldn’t hold out much for a comprehensive replacement for DriveDX.

DriveDX is not (never has been?) available in the Australian App Store, so I can't help you with that one. Certainly the license file I mentioned will not be present in your case. If it still in your App Store you should be able to run it (either copied from old Mac or downloaded again) so long as you are using the same Apple ID as when you purchased.

Smartmontools is nearest alternative to DriveDX. Like DriveDX it requires the SATSMARTdriver kext. It has a GNU GPLv2 license https://www.gnu.org/licenses/old-licenses/gpl-2.0.html#SEC1

I've send BF an email, will report back asap.
Best of luck with that!

It depends on the enclosure, here’s a Samsung 980 NVMe M.2 SSD connected to a MBA M1 with an Axagon EEM2-GTSA USB-C

Thanks again. The trouble is that DriveDX was in the US App Store when I bought it there in 2016, but doesn't appear to be there anymore (perhaps because the company has gone belly-up, as per the earlier comments in this thread?). So, I've downloaded and installed the latest version from another website, but that latest version doesn't recognize my license (but does appear to recognize that the trial period for the software has expired!).

I bought it there in 2016
DriveDx 1.5.1 (released date 2016-12-17) should be activated without any issues with your license.
https://binaryfruit.com/download/drivedx/mac/1/bin/DriveDx.1.5.1.zip

Use AppCleaner https://freemacsoft.net/appcleaner/ or something similar to remove the installed version before installing and activating DriveDx 1.5.1. If the activation is successful, you could try later to upgrade.

My faulty DriveDx application is linked to OCLP 0.6.3 while on macOS Monterey 12.6.5. Uninstalled 0.6.3 and re-installed OCLP 0.5.0. DriveDx is working like before. I just went to far ahead updating OCLP while still on macOS Monterey:
PEBCAK! ;)

I purchased DriveDx in 2021 thru the BynaryFruit website, received two emails on the same date:

1. sales@payproglobal.com

Your license key file is attached to this email, import it into DriveDx (menu "DriveDx > Import License Key..."). Please keep your copy of this file in a safe place.

2. support@binaryfruit.com

Registration option #1:
Copy this data into the "DriveDx Registration" window (menu "DriveDx > Registration...").
NOTE: all fields are case sensitive.
Licensekey: key-data
---
Registration option #2:
There is another registration option - special license file is attached to this email.
You could just import it into DriveDx (menu "DriveDx > Import License Key...").
---

Haven't received a reply yet.

Glad to see the “drama” over, if indeed it is, but that’s a poor excuse.
They could have posted a short message on their blog, on their Twitter account, on this forum or sent an e-mail to MacRumors or other website that covers macOS software.
The download link for the “Free Download” button on the website now is the same as the one mentioned in post #3, from 9 February 2023.

Looks like they're back in business; just got this email reply last night at almost midnight from BinaryFruit Support (support@binaryfruit.com), and a DriveDx in-app Check for Updates resulted in a new version that I was able to download and install. Woohoo, it's alive!

Not sure if I believe what they're saying, as they were totally offline, including radio silence on Facebook and all other social media that companies usually use if their main infrastructure is down, but whatever the actual cause was, I'm glad they're back because it's an awesome utility. As a testament to their coding, the old version had no issues migrating from an older Intel MBPro running 10.x to a new Apple Silicon MBPro running Ventura, kept working like a charm.

Hello John,

A web-server configuration error has occurred because of hosting provider misconfiguration.
And we have received thousands emails to support.
Therefore, we were unable to promptly respond to everyone.
And it looks like we initially some-how missed your email.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
You can download now.

If you will have any questions or feedback please don’t hesitate to contact us.

After spending the weekend having to reinstall Ventura from scratch after installing DriveDx I would avoid it like the plague, but that was possibly my unlucky interaction

One of the surprising benefits of DriveDx:
When I have an external drive that won't mount, which is often, I can run DriveDx, and even if it doesn't recognize the drive, the drive will mount after a few minutes (when DriveDx is running or after I quit).
So it works as a drive mounter, a type of program that is badly needed on the Mac.

You should run First Aid on those drives. If they are formated ExFAT or NTFS, connect them to Windows and run Check Disk.

This is great, but I'm not going to touch DriveDx again until I get a better understanding of why they went AOL for so long. Their explanation didn't appear honest, and didn't build confidence on my part that this isn't again going to turn into an abandoned product. I sent an email to their support address a couple of days ago asking for explanation/reassurance, but haven't heard back yet.

What do you see as potential hazards for installing and using DriveDx? Just curious about your take on that. Greetings.

Personally, I see no hazards. DriveDX continues to work fine and the latest update is good news.

I guess the point was more about caution for someone now buying the app with some questions on continued support intent due to quite some gap with no news or updates.

Maybe I'm being excessively cautious, but: The developer dropped off the map for an extended period (no responses to emails, update not working, website down) and then gave an almost-impossible-to-believe explanation as to why.

I'm a WordPress developer. There have been multiple cases where a plugin was taken over by an incompetent, scammy, or outright malicious developer, after which it (a) created technical problems, and (b) intentionally or unintentionally became a vehicle for malware delivery.

I would love to be using DriveDx again, but I steer clear of software where there's any reason not to trust the developer. I would love it if BinaryFruit could give (a) a believable explanation as to what happened (even if it's just that personal issues occurred), (b) a statement that the same developer is still behind it or that someone else credible has taken over, and (c) a statement that they intend to support DriveDx for the reasonable future.

@Big Bad D Posting a heads up is always a nice and friendly way to warn fellow members for potentional issues due to discontinued support we encountered for some time. May be a solid red flag in some cases. For now I'm oke with it and still use DriveDx.

@fssbob Thanks for your explination. I understand it from your point of view.
