I've got a C2D mbp and I don't think it gets terribly warm. When it's doing some intensive work, it gets pretty warm, but with regular use (web browsing, email, word, etc) it stays pretty cool.

It's nice to keep on your lap during the winter months. Saves on the heating bill :D

I have one of those platforms with fans that the laptop sits on. It plugs into the USB port for power....Good stuff when you dont need it in your lap.

Update on my CD MBP...

with the original logic board, the computer would shut itself down when CPU temp reached 225F (using iStat Nano). The easiest way for me to get this to happen was converting a video using Popcorn or Handbrake. Repairs as follows:

- The fans were replaced 3 times,
- the logic board was replaced 4 times (new logic board got to 255F before shutting down),
- the temp sensor/cable was replaced 2 times,
- the heat sink was replaced 1 time

When picking up the computer from its 3rd repair, I tested it in-store by trying to convert a movie... shutdown at 255F as expected. The genius started running diagnostics and it shutdown on him as well. Now, a week after the 4th repair in 5 months, the store called to let me know my repair was canceled and to come in at my convenience to pick up my new 15" MBP. :D

Old: 1.83GHz CD, 512MB, 80GB
New: 2.2GHz C2D, 2GB, 120GB... and converts movies like nobodies business!

Thank you :apple:! I'll be in at the end of the week to buy a new iMac and iPod for the wife!

Gets up into the 165-170F range now, tops. The CPU gets throttled back as much as half at some points while the fans are trying to catch up. Still, MTR rips an entire DVD in under 4 minutes, then popcorn takes maybe 40-45 minutes to convert to standard iPod h.264 format.

Just found out last night, they upgraded my iLife to '08 as well!
