I actually just found and checked the WWDC version and to my surprise, it isn't there either. https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://www.apple.com/ios/ios-11-preview/
The only place I see it officially mentioned is the WWDC keynote.
I'm flabbergasted. I would have staked my life on it. It was even floating around here. Just wow.

Hi Messages in the Cloud were removed in iOS 11 Beta 5. It states this in the release notes and it will be added again in a later update. Barry
Apple said:Copied from iOS 11 Beta 8 release notes.
The “Messages in iCloud” feature was removed in iOS 11 beta 5 and will ship in a future software update to iOS 11. Users can continue to receive and store messages on each device, and they can continue to backup and restore messages using iCloud Backup.

Thanks for icloud messages reminder.
PDF states icloud messages will arrive via future ios11 update.
I was beginning to think maybe ios12.
I feel somewhat exclusive using this feature abeit temporarily before it was removed.
Just to be clear the quote stated “The “Messages in iCloud” feature was removed in iOS 11 beta 5 and will ship in a future software update to iOS 11. ”
I hate to be a stickler on words and perception but it seems to me that ‘in a future update TO iOS 11’ can mean iOS 11.3 onward and upward to anything after be it iOS 12/13/14 etc.
No. If it's still happening I'd expect it in an 11.3 update which we might be seeing a beta of next month.Does anybody have any idea when this is shipping? Is it included in the current beta?
Apple is bringing iMessage to its iCloud platform. The company announced during WWDC that in iOS 11, users will be able to sign in on any device and have all of their messages, thanks to iCloud integration.
If you sign into iCloud on a new device or a restored device, do you have all of your messages there once you do that?I don't understand what this even means.
From the linked Verge article:
Huh? I ALREADY see my iMessages on all devices. iPhone, iPad, two Macs.
Is this just about deleted messages being deleted everywhere? If so, and it doesn't now, I've never noticed that.
Or is it about logging-in to the iCloud website and being able to see your messages? I can't imagine why I would want to do that, though I guess it would be nice. I always have my iPhone, so I wouldn't be in a situation where I would need to log-in to iCloud for messages. (Unless lost/forgot/stolen phone.)
I just know that when I hear the "ding" I pick up whatever device is handy, and the message is there. I occasionally use my Mac to send links to friends, and when I open iMessage on my Mac all my messages are there.
What is the great hoopla that everybody is waiting for?
If you sign into iCloud on a new device or a restored device, do you have all of your messages there once you do that?
Sure, backup would bring back the messages that were backed up in it. With iMessage in iCloud the same conversations and messages would be in iCloud so that when you sign into iCloud on a device you would get the same messages that you would have on other devices basically (without the need to restore from a backup that would have those messages backed up).Yes, I do.
My iPhone X has messages going back to 12/2016.
But maybe that came from local backup? (I restored from my iPhone 7+ backup using iTunes.)

Exactly as messaged in iCloud were from an earlier beta before being removedSure, backup would bring back the messages that were backed up in it. I wonder when we will see this now?
Apple said "future update" that really leaves the door wide open.
Since Apple can't go back on it and they didn't give a date, even if it's rough (spring 2018 say) I'd guess 'future update' means not anytime soon. I'm placing my best on iOS 12
They specifically said "future update to iOS 11" which I understand would be before iOS 12.Apple said "future update" that really leaves the door wide open.
iOS 11 isn't done yet. Doesn't seem like anything has been screwed up, let alone big time, just yet.Apple screwed up here, big time. They bit off more than they could chew. A simple apology and explanation to us was all that was needed. That they haven’t even the dignity to do that says it all. I doubt we’ll ever see it.
