CPU is very slow on the iPad 3 (it's an A5) and the GPU was barely enough to make it handle the retina.

So you have an iPad 2 with a better display, so effectively, a nice screen but really hobbled by performance. And dealing with 30 pin connectors.

I got rid of an iPad 3 for $425 GameStop credit, which is now $425 of Amazon credit on my account, as good as good cash to me.

Lol, A5 is not slow

Take for example this 32GB with verizon cellular ipad, good condition other a ding on the top. CLICK

Is that not an insane steal on the buyer's part?
Listing ended early by seller. Likely sold item outside of ebay or private deal with a bidder or something.

Now for a surprisingly unsuccessful listing. Mint condition 16GB with no scratches, only problem is that it has no box and only comes with charger. 100$ with no bites?? Why?? What is so wrong with these things? Are they really that bad? Or is there something else wrong with them that my amateur online shopper instincts can't detect?
"This listing was ended by the seller because there was an error in the listing."

In both cases, it's not that no one was willing to buy. The sellers just ended the listing early. You can get a refurb iPad 3 16GB wi-fi with new shell, new battery and 1 year warranty from Apple for $359. That lowers the selling price of used iPads.

Most importantly, the prices are just the bids when the sellers ended the auctions early. In all probability, the ipads actually sold for prices different than what is listed.

These two auctions are not valid indicators of pricing.

I have an iPad3, and it's a perfectly good device. I play Amazon Instant Video, stream other videos from my iMac's iTunes, read books via the Kindle App and via iBooks, use it for eMail when I travel (was in UK this summer and just bought a UK sim), and have no problems. I'm on IOS 7.0.3.

It's not as fast as an iPad Air, but it's just fine for me. I don't play games on it.

Typical MR forums users exaggeration.
The GPU handles the display well, and it almost never runs hot.

Agreed, I use it every day, absolutely no problems at all. in fact it is only the lighter weight of the air that is making me consider it as an upgrade, and if prices are so low on resale then much more likely to leave it in the family.

The screen is fantastic too, and it feels nice and solid ;)

This one seems to be doing well.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-iPad-...01018030836?pt=US_Tablets&hash=item461612a2f4

So I'm looking through ebay to compare resale values... And what surprised me is how little people are willing to pay for the 3rd gen ipad.

LOL Op your links do not support your argument.

Okay I'd like to apologize, I didn't pay close enough attention to the listing and didn't realize it was ended early. Looks like the average price for a 32GB 3rd gen is ~300. So in line with normal depreciation. Sorry guys honest mistake, but at least we got a conversation out of it.

Sold my iPad 3 (64 GB, AT&T) yesterday at Gamestop. It was a fine iPad but definitely there were limitations and I was eager to get the new iPad Air for 1) greater speed in charging; 2) consistency in having all devices using the same type of cable (lightning cable); 3) greater capacity (128 GB); and last, but not least, 4)less heat when used. My iPad 3 would really heat up, especially in a warm room or outdoors on a warm day. There is a significant difference in the iPad Air, which I noticed immediately on the day last week I got her and set her up. I also, of course, appreciate the slimmer body of the iPad Air and the somewhat lighter weight.

Definitely there was nothing that WRONG or "undesirable" about the iPad 3 and now someone with limited budget should be able to pick one up for a good price and enjoy it for a while.
