Multitasking feature,2 apps running at the same time, touch id,it s really annoying to put the passcode, slo mo and more

Personally, TouchID is the only one of those features that I use on a regular basis. Not everyone needs every feature. If you just want an iPad for web browsing, reading, and social media, buying the latest model is overkill. It's not stupid to sacrifice some features that may not be important to you if it saves money. Why do you think there's a market for used devices? The Air 1 is still pretty popular on eBay.

Yeah, not everyone cares about having the latest and greatest.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. And frankly, a lot of people only care because it's the latest and greatest, not because it necessarily offers anything new that they need.

I have an air 1 and just ordered an iPad mini 2 on eBay. Sure they're not quite as snappy as my iPhone 6s is, but they get the job done. FaceTime ,iMessage, iTunes, YouTube all work great. I like to load up YouTube videos in the garage and follow videos on car maintenance and load up PDFs of shop manuals. I don't need 2GB of ram for any of that. The 32GB cellular iPad mini 2 was $220. After the recent doubling of storage capacity apple sells the 32GB cellular mini 4 for $529 plus tax and before last month it was $629. A substantial savings in my book.

I wouldn't reccomend to buy ANY iPad and iPhone with 1 GB of RAM TODAY . It's waste of money. Buy an Air 1 now with just 1GB of RAM is not a good idea . I think the maximum OS that the Air 1 can run is IOS 12. Really, if you buy the Air 1 or any 1GB of RAM IPhone/IPad you are stupid !!
I don't think iPad Air 1 will ever support iOS 12. Since 2016, Apple has stopped selling aaaaaany A7 Devices. And since iOS 10, A7 Devices battery life is too short no matter how many times you replace it. iPad Air 1 and other A7 Device can only reach iOS 11. iOS 10.3.2 and iOS 11 beta 1 both are pretty dang slow on A7 Devices.

I'm so confused how my sister's iPad Mini 4 and her iPhone 6 with 1GB of ram just like the iPhone 5 didn't get any slower or still the same performance when she updated her iPhone 6 to iOS 11 beta 1/2. But my iPad Air even a simple Game crashes often

Well, iPad Mini 2 has 1.5 Times smaller screen than the iPad Air 1 that is why iPad Mini 2 runs a little better than the Air 1. Since iOS 10, even the Game is not heavy or the 3rd apps crashed sometimes on iPad Air 1st gen

Still the same resolution tho and the same processor. The larger physical panel wouldn't really affect performance.

The iPhone 5s has a much lower battery capacity so after a few years of wear, it's expected that battery life will be shorter. I purchased an iPad Air upon launch and battery life on that is still comparable to Air 2 and Pro 9.7 (~10 hours onscreen time).

As for the iPhone 6 and iPad mini 4, they've got A8 processors which are considerably faster than A7. RAM isn't really the primary reason why they're faster. However, lack of RAM is the most likely culprit for frequent app crashes on devices with less RAM. Correction though, the iPad mini 4 actually has 2GB RAM, not 1GB.

Also, why resurrect a thread from 2016? At this point in time, the 2017 iPad or heavily discounted is pretty much a no-brainer unless one can get the Air for $100 or something.

I have a friend looking to get a couple cheap, used ipads and I recommended looking for an ipad air 1 at least. I figured they are still more than good enough for kids to play games on.

Only if your friend have some kids then yes kids will think it is still good enough. Kids will not complain. Don't tell them it is too slow/sluggish. :)
