my take is: (FWIW) ;)

the basic tablet form factor for the iPad is a sure thing just as the iPhone was a sure thing.

The reason? -because ebook readers are.

Whether or not the Ipad's specific form will endure for the near future remains to be seen.

Eventually (hopefully) screens that a hybids of the digital ink (ebook) type and the iPad type will be used so these will become ubiquitous.

Mind you, I use my Kindle all the time. It's not perfect but is pretty useful.

Should be fun no matter :D

I've been to the future, and the iPad you all know hasn't succeeded. Apple comes to it's senses and installs a Touch optimized version of OS-X on it to run all Mac apps. It also runs iPhone apps, but most owners laugh that off. It's got a Safari browser that supports Flash. It supports Mac printer drivers. The battery pack is removable, replaceable, recyclable. There are three USB ports on a side (or is that the bottom?). Prices run from $299 (64gb SSD) to $499 (500gb HDD), and the 3G/4G chip is already installed on all models. You still have to pay a monthly fee to activate it though. You can get yours in any of 16 colors.

Your words: "I've been to the future, and the iPad you all know hasn't succeeded."

lol dude, do you even think about what you type? If you can see iPad IS in the future it's not because it had horrible sales, Apple clearly doesn't build on it's mediocre success (ATV, MBA, Cube etc..) they evolve and make huge profits on their successful lines of products, which iPad's current version will need to be for it to make it to the future. They will evolve the product as they have the iPod, the MBP, iMac etc... So you tried to be clever.. but basically just stated the obvious. IF the iPad is a huge success it will evolve. Most of us didn't need time travel to realize this. Congrats :)

That "touch optimized OSX" you speak of? You should set your time machines dial to 2007... it's called the iPhone OS. This is the foundation of what Apple has built on for nearly 3 years, it's not going away so they can start all over. Strip the touch part away and at it's core it IS the OS X we use now on our desktop. I'm still amazed people don't' get this simple fact.

Clearly your Archos 9 time machine interface is to slow and has distorted your view. I'd suggest rebooting, cleaning up any virus or malware and trying again, because your clearly hit a BSOD in your travels.

apple should go back to their old ad slogan "Think Different", because a lot of the haters aren't thinking different at all. they're thinking exactly the same, or not at all.

Haters and fanboys change, sometimes the biggest fanboys become the biggest haters. But you hear pretty much the same from the haters and the fanboys, regardless of the decade. They are just stupid default positions to be in... Stuck in prejudice and narrow-mindedness.

I've been a mac user since 95 and I haven't seen anything like this.

I thought the bitching about the new shuffle (which I love) was bad...

To me it the biggest and most controversial Apple event was the switching to Intel.

iPad fury and madness reminds me of iphone and even MacBook Air.

It seems to me...

Same thing happens everytime they release new products in new area, everybody want's a slice of Apple's new pie before announcement / release.

When said product is released, people realise they are not the target market and feel disappointed, and so vent their frustration on message boards - stating the device will fail, is the worst thing apple has done, is entirely without point/merit and so forth.

Product is released, it finds a market and does well within that market even if it turns out to be niche.

iPad will be a success.

Relax. You can still buy your iPad when it comes out. :p

Just to show off, THIS is where I revealed the name and basic specs of Apple's upcoming device. No I didn't have it perfect. Even Apple didn't have all the specs nailed down then. ;)

Wow, you totally missed the point of my post.

By "think different", I meant different than the mindset that a tablet computer should necessarily be just a touchscreen version of a full OS, which has failed in the marketplace and failed in the public's imagination.

Apple is thinking different again by creating a tablet that is optimized for touch. In time it will be seen as a no-brainer.

Yes, there is plenty of rancor on this forum over the iPad. It seems to be a "love it or hate it" device, despite the fact none of us have used one yet. Count me in the "don't like the 3rd gen Shuffle" camp. I prefer the 2nd gens--in fact so much so that I have 3 of them.

The ipad isn't even on general sale yet so let the market decide later

Money talks and we will see soon enough how controversial it is once its released and the hype has died down.

The second gens were pretty much perfect. I like the third because you can hide the device inside your jersey while mountain biking. I also like the playlist feature. I get why people hate it, the whole headphone thing.

Apollo Anton Ohno uses one while he trains!

yup, it's the "headphone thing" that causes issues--I can't wear Apple earbuds and I have no desire to complicate things by buying an accessory control cable (or did apple start supplying them with the units now?). I place my 2nd gen Shuffles on my lapel, so it's super convenient to control it.

All that hype for an MP3 player? Break-thru digital device? The Reality Distiortion Field™ is starting to warp Steve's mind if he thinks for one second that this thing is gonna take off.

I think this quote is the take away from that thread...replace "an MP3 Player" with "Just a bigger iPod Touch" and we are up to date on developments in hater thinking :D

All Apple products have been controversial except the iPod Classic and Apple TV. Controversial but yet the best in the market still.

Post 18: Come on everyone, y'all are saying it sucks before you have even held it in your hand

Post 21: No matter what Apple does there are always people who are NEVER happy. Give it a rest. It's a great idea and the first of many. Why don't you give it a chance. It's price point isn't half bad either.

Post 30: iPod could be better... hackable?

Post 45:
No reason to complain...
I guess the negative reactions indicate that people expect miracles from Apple.

I don't think it would have been possible for Apple to hype this product any less... they didn't do anything but invite the press to the announcement (of course they used the word "revolutionary", but that's standard marketing jargon). However, everyone feels cheated because the rumor mill blew the thing out of proportion.

And the immediate next post was asking if Poster of post 45 was on drugs saying it wasnt revolutionary, was a bad fit and without a future.

Drawing from this old thread, a lot of complaining, and criticisim, cynicism came from newbies, and members who ain't here anymore.

Post 71:
Oh...my...god. I can only shake my head and smile in amazement at you people. What a bunch of doom and gloom cynic crybaby beeotches. Am i in a mac forum? I had to check about a hundred times. The ipod[iPad] is sick. Do you all think it is so easy to come up with a product that simply is better than the rest? All you friggin brats want some fire breathing super virtual reality teleportation PDA that you seen captain kirk had on episode 145? sheesh...t

95:
You guys expect that everytime Apple says "breaktrough" it means they will come up with some time travel life reinventing miraculous technology. NOBODY can appeal to your expectations! Why don't you just let them be and try out new ideas and products instead of always expecting them to bring another personal computer revolution? That is just NUTS!

Revolution: A fundamental change.

Breaktrough: A sudden advance in technique.

Groundbreaking: Markedly innovative.

Apple simply saw a segment of a crowded market that no one was filling... and filled it to the best of their abilities. It's a cool product, and it may not fit everyone's taste.

There are some people that think that just because they don't want a particular thing, they think it is stupid. Whether this is a "sour grapes" thing or not, these people seem to think that it is their god-given duty to ridicule the product, and those who want to buy them...
If you don't like it, don't buy it, and voice your opinion. DONT make fun of people who want it, and don't make stupid-ass remarks...Some people really need to step back and realise what they are saying sometimes.
