Zero knowledge? Well, tbh, I have never ran an iPhone with tethered jailbreak.I Just havent. Why? Because it sucks. And it is just as I say, you need the computer in order to startup the device. Simple as that.
Btw, read the quote again.
Dude. Trust me, I hate tethered jailbreaks as much as you do. For a while, my iPhone 4 relied on a tethered jailbreak (4.3.3? I think). I also had a Gevey SIM to unlock my phone. I'm a college student and a few of the lecture halls have no signal...and my iPhone becomes useless. It goes into "searching" a few times, and eventually goes back to "no signal". This messes up the unlock and like 10% of the time I would be able to leave that lecture hall without having to reboot.
So not only did I have a tethered jailbreak, I had to restart my phone every time the Gevey SIM failed to unlock.
Before you bash on tethered jailbreaks though, remember that these are the surest and quickest ways to get jailbreaks out there. Yes, it won't satisfy you, but it'll satisfy some other users who want jailbreaks
now and/or do not mind tethered.
I'm no expert on jailbreaking, but I remember reading somewhere that tethered jailbreaks are always much easier to accomplish than untethered jailbreaks. That is why for the longest time tethered jailbreaks are released weeks and even months before untethered jailbreaks are out.
Tethered jailbreaks are not worthless at all. They give people who don't mind having a tethered jailbreak a chance to jailbreak in exchange for requiring a computer to power up (equivalent exchange? LOL if there are any FMA fans out there...).
They allow developers of Cydia apps (who don't have easiest access to pre-general population jailbreaks) to develop and upgrade their existing apps to make way for the mass population of iPhone users when an untethered jailbreak comes out.
Don't get me wrong, I'm no fan of tethered jailbreaks. But you're stirring up unnecessary trouble calling people stupid or whatever, posting images of the South Park WoW player over something so small and irrelevant. You don't have to use it, and it's fine to express your opinion. Sure, go ahead and think it's stupid and worthless. I'll express my opinion and try and open up your way of thinking just a little bit.
It may not be for you, but that doesn't make it worthless or a piece of crap.
If you want a jailbreak that badly, take what you have. If you don't, then just wait.
