With the overheating issue is it really worth opening the box?

All I know is my 14 pro max worked like a charm till I upgraded to 17.0.1.

I’m afraid I’m jumping into the fire with the 15 pro max.

Well I’ve opened a couple of them…just trying to decide which one to keep! 😂

Every iPhone I've ever bought got extremely hot in the set up process and sometimes on the next day or two while it was still doing stuff in the background. If it had continued after that period I would have returned the phone but never had to. So, what's really the problem here? If your phone shows immediate problems on the outside return it. If it shows problems a few days after continuously using it return it.

No, you should leave it in the box forever. Just carry around the whole box and take calls on it.
Then it be one little hot box. I never had any problems with any iPhone except when it was setting up and transferring from old phone to the new phone would get warm including my 15 Pro then it has been fairly cool to the touch. The only time I ever even got a battery heat warning was my old iPhone 11 Pro would get hot on CarPlay if I stuck it in the cubby in the console under the HVAC controls I had in my car. I learned quick to put all my pervious phones behind the shifter in car where it had air flow

No issues here. Phone got a little warm while initially syncing everything from iCloud, which I expected. After that, it’s been as cool or cooler than my 14 PM. I think the complaints here are a little overblown.
Same with me I went from a 14 pro to 15 PM no issues with it being hot!

Tim cooks say go green charge your phone to 80% battery life and save cost on your heating bills by using your iPhone for heating in the winter.
