I'm trying to debate weather or not the iphone will cause lines like the 360, ps3, or wii. The cingular rep in best buy thinks not, cingular rep in radioshack thinks not in one store and yes in another.

I live in a town of about 100,000 and I don't expect a line, but I didn't expect a line for WoW:BC and found my self in one of three 200 person lines across the town at midnight in the cold.

Also will it just be actual At&t /cingular stores or also the smaller stores like in radioshack or bestbuy. The people I talked to didn't seem to know and said maybe.

Nope.
Just walk up and buy one. With 3,000,000 phones out, there will be plenty.

It is more expensive than consoles and is attracting a slightly different audience. Consoles sorta expect lines. It is hard to guess at this point. I think it depends on the store. There are going to be people in front of every store. I dont think there are going to be as many as with the console's though. A lot of the people in line for those are buying it to re sell and brag. The iPhone is different because of the contract.

I would expect there to be lines, but not at stores like BestBuy or Radioshack because they won't have any iPhones. :p

Plus, places like BestBuy are 3rd party. They dont really care what you think about sony. They just want your money.

Apple is an experience. They want you to enjoy the buying process. I dont think they will just leave people out in the cold.

Hmm, to wait at the apple store or the Cingular store with a parking lot that holds 5 and on the corner of 2 major roads...

Are you sure?

What the hell are they in line for?

I heard each store is getting 20 is that confirmable?
I'm getting three...
I was the originally the only one in the family getting one, but my sisters saw the damn ads and now they both want one for their birthdays, they're twins.

No one knows how many to expect. I really don't expect too big of lines here, but I'll be getting in (or starting :p ) a line a few hours before launch.

The grand opening of Apple's 5th Avenue retail store. ...Keep in mind, these people weren't even there to buy anything. ;)

I wouldn't count on it. There very well may be a limit of 1 per customer.

If they don't require activation at the store then hell ya they better limit it. I don't want someone at the front of the line to buy 30 and put them all on eBay.

I am guessing it will be limited 1 per person, they had to do it for consoles for a reason.

Yeah, Yeah. That was different though. Like you said they werent buying anything. I doubt Apple would do that with a bunch of people waiting to pay 500 or 600 dollars. Maybe though... I guess if they dont have any other choice.

People line up for a shot at being first in all sorts of strange things. If you sit in line all day for a storing opening ... and you don't plan to buy something. Then wow, you like that product too much.

I may just order mine from Apple.com and skip the fuss. I don't mind waiting in line after work, but I would hate to wait and come up empty handed.

The thing with the iphone is you need that contract so it should get rid of the "im gonna buy all them and sell them for a bazlion dollars on ebay" people. And if it is one per person just get the three of us who want them to get them.

I REALLY don't think it's going to be a madhouse for the iPhone at all.

People are forgetting that this is a $500 phone, not a game console. Yes, I'm sure lots of people will buy it but I doubt very much there's going to be crazy lines at all but the biggest stores (e.g. Apple store on 5th in NYC or whatever). The fact that you have to drop the cash and then are forced to pay for it monthly is not something that people are going to shove each other over for.

It'll be interesting to see. With the additional information coming out about it, a lot of which is disappointing to some of us with phones that already meet our needs that so far the iPhone will not, the 'hype' is kind of corroding...at least for me. I am not as anxious as I was, but I may line up for one anyway because I'm a gadget junkie. But my feeling now is that if I don't get one because theyre sold out (of the 8GB), no big whoop. I'll wait for developments and/or the 2G.

I just made the same observation in another thread that lilNYC just did. My feelings are slowly changing but I think I will still get it.

It's kind of like when you see a hot chick, but then you find out she has a kid and a brother who is in jail and a crazy ex-boyfriend. All significant baggage but the chick is still hot enough to bang. :p
