Why would any 1 want a toaster in their hand with only 30 mins battery life.
I hadn't thought of the heat issue. The modbook would be scorching!

The modbook apparently has about the same amount of battery life as a Macbook, but that's still less than half of the iPad.

modbook
http://www.axiotron.com/index.php?id=modbook

This would be the tablet I want thats more than capable and well worth the price over the ipad

Has all the shortcomings of the ipad addressed

The existence of the iPad does not negate the existence of the ModBook - - fortunately for you, the ModBook is available for purchase today. Get out you credit card and just forget the iPad even exists...

Because it's expensive. People complaining about the iPad are really complaining because they just want a cheaper Mac. They want the iPad to do everything a MBP can, only smaller, lighter, and cheaper.

The key difference between the modbook and the iPad imo is ease of use.

Yes, the modbook runs OSX, a great advantage, until you need to be able to input data. That stylus does not lend itself to seamless inputting. Its probably a heavier device and the battery life is subpar when it compared to the iPad.

Apple's claim to fame for many of its products is its easy operation. Heck one of the commercials for the macintosh128k compared the user manual for that and the ibm pc. Apple has continued that tradition, and to that point, I think trying to use OSX without a mouse/keyboard but with a stylus flies in the face of ease of use.

how is a stylus worse for inputting data than a finger with virtual keyboard?

Are you KIDDING? Uh, bud I dunno if you realize this but you can type very fast using your fingers, lightyears faster then trying to tap on the keys with a stylus.

Plastic keyboards and stylus' are just getting obsolete. The only use for a stylus on touch devices is for when precision is required with things such as photo editing.

If you haven't noticed, apple hasn't included a stylus with any of their touch screen devices and they have all been great hits. Other companies just don't seem to realize the stupidity of including a stylus in todays touch screen devices. Your finger is much more powerful then a stylus.

no, i'm not kidding. this is a virtual keyboard that is 6 inches in width, if you watch the video jobs can only use the first 2 fingers of each hand to even type, and there is a lack of responsiveness to the virtual keyboard. how is a tablet that is capable of handwriting recognition slower than a peck and hit virtual keyboard?

There may even be a third-party stylus one day, which will allow handwriting input for those special occasions (I imagine something in the field of science-medicine right now, but there are other fields of course.).

There are already stylus available for the iPad. They are $5-15 or so, depending on quality, brand, reseller, etc. Apple specifically mentions them on their site as an accessibility option. If I get an iPad, I'd likely pick one up just for doodles and maybe annotating documents; for $10, whynot?

This is the best response to all the "I hate the iPad" comments as it sums up the general source of all the complaints. No one who wants a "full OSX tablet" ever mentions that they'd be willing to pay $1000, $1500, $2000 for one (seriously, if they made an Air tablet it would be at least as much as the Air, so $1500 starting price, likely more.

I was one of those people hoping this thing was a Macbook Air size tablet and figured the price would be around the Macbook Pro line.

I don't think that you'd even need to experience either one to realize that it's a ton worse. One stylus vs ten fingers...or if you're talking about handwriting, then the time it takes for you to write anything vs the time it takes for you to type it.

Anyway, the ModBook is definitely something that's interesting. The ModBook Pro (whopping 4K or a little less if you already have a MacBook Pro) has multi-touch as well as a stylus. The price is so expensive, though (especially if you account for the fact that they rip the 9600 GT away and leave you with the lower 9400M). If it weren't for the price, I'd totally get it. But I can actually settle for the iPad. It's not gonna be a computer replacement nor was it gonna be a laptop replacement.

For what it's worth, everyone, the title of this thread TECHNICALLY means "Is it just me who thinks this way, or does the Axiotron Modbook NOT blow away the iPad, as in the iPad is superior."

If you wanted to get all grammatical, and such.

What a hilarious misunderstanding on all of our parts!

It does have GPS and full fledged OSX

If you are using an older mb, like me, who is looking at both a new laptop and a tablet, then 600 for the conversion isn't a big deal

Something to consider and would be imo, a much more flexible device than the ipad

since when is cost a factor with apple users lol

Ipad 3g+GPS App? Iphone OS 4.0?
