I'll play the wild card and say that Apple Inc. is in no particular hurry to update their line of notebooks with the release of Centrino Pro.

I can see them waiting for Penryn.

Of course, if they upgrade to Centrino Pro sooner than later, all for the better.

here is the trick.

everyone says "wait". i even say wait. but really we have no idea what to expect and when to expect anything. it really becomes a personal choice no matter what is said, you will leave this forum with the same information. you might want to wait, but you might need to buy........

depending on your level of confidence, you will either pull the trigger or put the safety back on.

The current MBP is already 64-bit compatible for Mac OSX...

Don't play the waiting game - it's a fools errand

Yeah, 64-bit compatible. Not fully 64-bit. The Merom processor is 64-bit, but the chipset is a 32-bit chipset. You can run 64-bit software on it, but can only address 32-bits of ram and stuff. The Santa Rosa Crestline chipset is fully 64-bit and able to address much more ram, plus it has a faster FSB.

Same ol' story...

If you need one, buy one.
If you want one, wait.

The thing is, "need" means different things to different people. My grandmother "needed" bread, water, a roof and a bible. I "need" digital cable, a 3rd external hard drive, a 2nd pair of prescription sunglasses, weeks of summer camps for my 7 year-old twins, a good lawn service, hotels with room service.......
