Add me to the list of satisfied AppleCare over eBay purchasers. Only guidance that I can provide is to purchase from someone with 100% feedback and read their comments to ensure people who activated their AppleCare were wholly satisfied. For my Macbook Air and Mac Pro, I used the following two sellers: bleedblak and saxmansattic.

I didn't read the thread, but just wanted to share my experience.

I bought Applecare for my MBP from an Ebay seller with lots of feedback, and had the code within 15 minutes and Applecare phone supported activated me 20 minutes after that. They were A OK with it, and I saved ~$140.

I was VERY skeptical, but I'm a believer now.

Hi all,

My first post here. I just recently bought a used Mac Pro. :D

The machine was still under original Apple warranty until Oct 5, 2008. I'm thinking of getting AppleCare and I saw on eBay there are several sellers selling the AppleCare for Mac Pro for much cheaper than the Apple Store price. Curiously, the seller will send only the registration code by email and not the box or papers.

My question is... are those sellers legit? Also I notice they're selling the "old" AppleCare which has part number MA516LL/A and the current one at Apple Store is MB586LL/A. Are there any difference between the old and new one?

Thanks in advance.

Bought Apple Care from eBay for 2 MBP's and my new MacPro, have never had a problem, the sellers name was 480sherry I believe.

to be safe, only buy it when you're ready to use it

i think like most people are saying, if you buy it from someone with good feedback, then you're probably okay. that being said, if you're paranoid like me, then i'd buy it pretty much when you're ready to use it, that way, if the code doesn't work, then you have time to resolve the problem.

I also just got mine from her, about two weeks ago. I paid $92 for AC on my Mac Pro. I got an email with the code about 5 minutes after I did the Buy It now on it. I registered it on Apple's site, and got the email the next morning saying it was all set

totally worth it

why is applecare cheaper for a mac pro than a mbp?

typically portables have a greater chance of breaking due to them being shuttled around everywhere, so applecare is usually more expensive than it is for a desktop, which usually just stays in one place.

that makes a lot of sense, thanks.

...Shouldn't you be asking APPLE since they're the one's who'll be offering you cover for your beloved machine? ....

Bingo!

I own 5 apple devices, all under store-bought AppleCare. I called Apple and asked them what were the dangers if any of a "blind" purchase of suspiciously under-priced policies. The support person (won't speak out of school, of course) suggested that there are a number of possible potholes, not the lease of which is that AC is sold on a device-specific registration and when their registered outside of that process, it can cause problems. (No specifics). So, although I didn't buy that idea 100%, the idea still sounded like I would not be warm and fuzzy with my coverage and the resulting anxiety wasn't worth the saving. (To say nothing about the subtle guilt that lives in some of us for doing an end-run around the single best customer service company in the world.
