How would a new design fix flaws in the current design? The 3G design didn't address any issues in the 2G phone. If anything there will be a different batch of flaws.
Good luck with your optimism though.
How would a new design fix flaws in the current design? You don't see ANYTHING wrong with the 3G/3GS design? For your information, the 3G design has many advantages from the original design. Lemme explain:
The iPhone 3G was a better design because:
1. Better speakers. They're louder and the mesh cover protects them better than the holes in the original iPhone.
2. The reception was greatly increased with the plastic back
3. The headphone jack was no longer recessed
4. The shiny plastic has more grip over the matte aluminum
5. The back is one piece
no more cheesy antenna cover (which hardly ever fit right anyway)
6. The screens in the iPhone 3G don't suffer from negative black (look it up).
7. Apple made it easier to replace the glass and LCD by making it very easy to remove and replace. I've done it a few times, however, it's a nightmare on the original iPhone.
Those are some of the things that made the 3G DESIGN better than the original. Some things I'd like to see them fix on the 3G are the following:
1. Give it a more durable plastic. The current plastic/ceramic material cracks (sometimes without the user even treating the phone badly)
2. Go back to a one-piece mute switch. Some iPhone 3Gs have been known to have the little nub unglue from the flip switch.
3. I'd like to see a design fix that makes the glass more likely to stay flush with the chrome bezel. I'm sure they could put a shelf attached to the chrome bezel that makes the glass line up with the bezel every time. It wouldn't sink on one side or raise up.
4. Put a rubber seal under the glass between the LCD and glass to prevent dust from creeping under the glass.
You see
there's quite a few ways Apple could make the build better. They could modify the design to be EASIER to build, thus reducing the number of defective units. Have you ever been in an Apple Store? Every time I'm there, there's someone complaining about the build quality of their iPhone. One time someone was showing the genius how it makes a rattle when he taps on the back. Another time, someone was complaining that the mute switch was too tight.
If Apple could reduce the chances of making a flawed unit by trying to modify the build design in an intelligent way that makes the iPhone both beautiful AND solidly built, they'd have an even better product. Afterall, look at the Unibody MacBook Pro.
