I thought I read recently, that the upcoming iPhone 11 Max or 11 pro or whatever they name, may have a gigantic battery, well for iPhone standards it's big. Like 3900mAh or so ? Couple with the efficient A13 chip, it would give some insane battery life.

To give a perspective, iPhone XS Max weights 208 gram, which is heavy enough to be sensible when carrying. Assuming Apple keeps using stainless steel frame and glass back just like iPhone XS, I don’t think the chance of having a “gigantic” battery is high.

We won't know until Apple tells us. But stay tuned...

+ battery case = Infinite battery life

The ‘A-Series processors’ are pretty efficient in managing the battery, [and obviously through user settings], but if there is a much larger battery in the iPhone 11, you can guarantee Apple will discuss it, because that’s one of the biggest selling points for any smart phone, aside from the camera.

Is it just me that thinks reverse charging is almost pointless? Here let me charge your phone with my phone so then I’ll need your phone to charge mine when mine dies from charging yours.

There’s no reliable rumor on the iPhone 11 battery. Stop read whatever site you read that rumor on.

I agree, the OP should at least had provided a link where they read about a ‘HUGE battery’ in their opening post on this thread, That would partially clear any confusion and/or source to the alleged rumor.

https://wccftech.com/2019-iphone-battery-leak-alleged/

Apparently per rumors the iPhone 11 Max battery will be 20% larger, and the A13 is supposed to be a good 10% or more efficient than the A12, meaning we could see a 30% battery life increase compared to the iPhone XS Max.

That's REALLY fuzzy math... just because the A13 processor will be 10% more more efficient (if that's even true), you won't see a 10% increase in battery performance... there's WiFi, BlueTooth, etc that will pull that down, perhaps significantly/

You need to factor the removal of 3D Touch in your equation.

  • iPhone 6 Plus display = 19g
  • iPhone 6s Plus display = 40g

The battery in the 6 Plus and 6S Plus weighs 43g. Removing 3D Touch will give Apple plenty of room in the weight department.

What about the added cameras in the new models along with the hardware required to charge devices from the phone? I bet all that weighs more than 3d touch.

An additional camera lens only adds about 5g. Reverse wireless charging adds no weight because the change is in the wireless charging/transmitter controller.

How much does the 3d touch weigh? I doubt the net gains we are talking here would account for much battery at all.

I recall reading numerous times over the years the 3D touch engine was a big thing inside the iPhone that it weighed a lot and took up a lot of space and I thought a couple of years ago people were saying once they remove that that can make the phones a lot thinner and lighter.

Weighed a lot? The overall consumption with 3D Touch consumed more internal space v.s. the weight being a major factor. FTR, What Tim Cook stated during the iPhone 6s Keynote, 3D Touch was extremely difficult to integrate with the LCD panel/display. That said, 3D Touch is a severely underused/unappreciated feature, which is unfortunate, because Apple failed to demonstrate its core purpose other than keynote. Being _if_ it’s deleted, a larger battery would completely feasible and being Apple has expanded on haptic touch for XR.

iPhone 6s Plus 3D Touch = 21g
iPhone XS Max battery = 46g

We are talking big gains.

This is correct. The 3D Touch film is 0.5mm thick.

iPhone 6 Plus = 7.1mm
iPhone 6s Plus = 7.3 mm

We also saw a 6% drop in battery capacity for the 6s Plus. Apple decreased the z-axis of the battery to accommodate 3D Touch.

Yes. And I just find out that Adobe Illustrator Draw can utilise force touch to almost perfectly mimic the Apple Pencil effect (pressure sensitive) on iPhone. Without force touch, this is impossible.

Oh, ok. That’s cool.
But if reverse wireless charging works on changing the controller, would that mean iPhone XS Max also can support reverse wireless charging? Or a new chip is required?

I don’t disagree, however, The sacrifice with a larger battery easily trumps 3D Touch from a consumer standpoint. Apple failed horribly at executing 3D Touch to demonstrate it’s true potential. It’s like ‘Live Photos’, another forgotten feature that got lost in translation. For those who actually understood 3D Touch and created the shortcuts for work/App purposes, it was a brilliant feature.
