There will be GPUs faster than a 4090 that we can install into a Mac Pro 7,1. Even if it requires Windows or Linux, at least that’s a possibility with the Mac Pro. That’s reason enough to still buy a 7,1 over a Studio in 2023.

Apple’s chips will get faster too, but I don’t think they will keep up with Nvidia and AMD. So those who have jumped onto the Studio bandwagon will need to spend another $5-10k for a new Studio every couple years to try to keep up.

I don't get these types of online arguments lol. It's not like everyone here is going to switch to PCs because OP really doesn't get Macs.

Of course you can build a better PC that's got better specs than a 2019 Mac Pro... (the clue is in the '2019'). A like-for-like comparison would be if there was an updated Intel Mac Pro, but that doesn't exist.

Why do so many people on these forums keep saying something equivalent to 'who needs more than 128gb ram?' Everybody has different needs and workloads. Just because it's a huge amount to one user, doesn't mean that another user fits the same bill. For my needs, I would be fine with a Mac Studio if I could top the ram out at 1TB. I'm currently using a Mac Pro 2019 with 1.5TB of ram and it runs my workload perfectly. I cannot transition to Apple Silicon no matter how fast/efficient or whatever else benchmarks are shown to me until I can physically have 1TB+ of ram inside of my desktop. Patiently waited for the 2 year transition period to come to a close, but the Mac Pro isn't here yet. Hoping Apple finds a way to address the ram on its SoC's.

Nerd curiosity has me asking what workflow you use 1.5TB? Thanks

so I am looking at reviews and everyone seems to say that M1 is faster than the Mac Pro chips multiple times over. The least expensive Mac Pro is $6K or so. Who would buy a Mac Pro then? Am I missing something? I doubt "upgradability" is the reason since buying a completely new M chip computer in few years would be cheaper than the initial investment + upgrade price.

Is it because the Mac Pro has graphics cards that are faster? Feels like a very thin market share since they probably can get get cheaper PCs for the same specs I am guessing of course.
Answer: NO. No such thing as a free lunch ... & the rest of it is pure hype.

Film scoring. I’m running a full virtual orchestra in Dolby Atmos with every articulation active in Cubase and Logic. Also have many other sample libraries loaded. Used to farm it out over 3-4 computers on Ethernet. With the MacPro thanks to insane ram I can run it all on one machine with no problems at all. 🎉

That is very cool and what the machine was intended for - 28 core I suspect?
