I'd like to be able to use this device by the pool, in the hot tub, or just while having a bath.
Do you think this is realistic?

Get yourself a Panasonic Toughbook
Could you use it? Sure. Is it waterproof? Certainly not. Solong as you protected the ports, it seems like it would be pretty splash resistant as-is.
There are very few seams in the design. In all honesty, it would not be so far a stretch of the imagination that if you were hardcore enough, you could disassemble the iPad and with some good use of silicone sealant, tighten up what seams there are (basically the interface between the glass and Al backing) and if you could find a good way to waterproof up the ports, you could make the thing pretty water resistant.
Ha, you try it first. Let us know how it works.
It's because of threads like this one that I am glad that I was busy all day and unable to be on the forums today.
Is it water resistant? GTFOH.
Someone will put out a pool jacket.
roflYou will need the iCondom for your pool usage.
Package of 2 only $29.95!!
I'm thinking that Otterbox may put out a case for it.
Yet you are on the forums today and you replied to this thread.
Besides, I don't see why this idea is such a stretch for you seeing as the device appears a lot less vulnerable to water than a laptop

surely Apple has a moisture indicator installed to void your warranty if it gets damp. SO if you send it in for repair and they see the tell-tale pink color you are SCREWED, even if it never got dunked in water.
If I had the money, I'd find a way to permanently mount one of these into my shower. Touchscreen internet, music control and email all in the shower... Heck yes! Where there's a will, there's a way (usually with money as the bridge). Am I alone here or does someone else see the value in this?
P.S It would also be cool to have fridge mount, but I digress.
I was hoping to use the iPad underwater, but now I'm being told I can't. What the hell is Apple thinking? This thing will be a monumental failure.

Ars says it's not water resistant but it is quite absorbent.
