is there any improvement in battery life on the m2 vs the m1?
Just buy it lol. You're clearly looking for justification/want it even though everyone here has told you you won't notice both the performance and battery for those use cases.

I have both tablets, but I only got the M2 one because I wanted the 12,9 version with the better screen for watching stuff on it. Otherwise, seriously there's absolutely zero difference performance wise between my M1 11' iPad and my M2 12,9 iPad. I don't really play games on it as well so for all the daily things, believe me there's zero difference between the 2.

You should just pay for a new battery when the times comes instead of wasting all that precious money.

People care too much about batteries. Just use it and when it'll be less than 80%, just replace it. My M2 iPad pro came out of the box with 96% battery health, and one year later, its still at 95%, but my M1 iPad is around 90% when it came out of the box with 103% battery health. My old 2020 iPad pro is sitting around 80%~85% since a good year. Anyway iPads don't have very good screen time per charge for a good while now so I almost always plug them in when I'm not using them. Its ironic that my phone have almost 2x more battery life than my iPad pros, and that's why nowadays I use my phone more and my iPad way less frequently than before.

For the next iPads, Apple should really care about battery life because its a joke now.

I agree with you, that on the next Pro models they need to significantly improve battery life. It really is a joke on my m1 12.9. I would also improve screen brightness too for when outside.

I wonder if this is specific to the XDR screen. I get better battery out of my m2 11 inch Pro vs. my M1 13 inch pro, but I can't tell if it's the display or the SOC being more efficient.

That is interesting. If I knew I could get better battery life with a 12.9 M2 compared to M1 I would upgrade. Also - starting to have some charging issues where I have to reboot to charging to work. So - guessing that part might be getting defective.

Agree. It’s also a joke, MacBook Air M2 can lasts up to 18 hours, compared to 10 hours on iPad. A full fledged computer can last almost double than the limited “iPad” computer.

Is the M2 really all that much more powerful though? I was using my partner's baseline M1 MBA for a while before buying my baseline M2 MBA. The things I do on each computer (game development, photo editing, etc), I'm not seeing any noticeable performance gain. Even having the two laptops side by side running the same process, it's all the same speed. The screen and design of the M2 MBA at least don't look like something from the mid-2010s.

The M2 iPad Pro has the Apple Pencil hover, I cannot think of another reason worth upgrading for. Even using my M1 iPP and 2020 iPP (both 12.9") side by side, the speed improvements were only marginal.

I'd say keep the M1 iPad Pro for now, the M3 is rumored to have a new design, so you might as well wait for that.
No idea, I don’t have it. But you said exactly the same as me in the end so I’m not sure why I’m you quoted me.

That comment is as pointless as telling a motorcyclist that his vehicle is “limited“ and that he can carry more passengers in a car. If that was his main need then he wouldn’t have bought a motorbike in the first place!

People buy iPad because they want to use iPad!

My internet is fast enough with wifi 6 so it would definitely not change much

Depends, of course, on what you are doing and the speed of your broadband connection. If you have > than 1000 Mbps (in my case ~1400 Mbps) then media consumption, such as news, has virtually no delays. Pages appear instantly. Downloads, such as app installations, take just seconds.

And it would't for most people. But the lack of congestion on that band might help some.

There are 70 networks in my vicinity. I am the only one on 6 Ghz so there is no congestion.

Though Apple's half-a$$ed support for it ruins it.

In what way? I have 2 routers - once that allows me to have seperate SSIDs for each frequency and one which only has a combined (2.4, 5, and 6) SSID. No problem connecting to the 6 GHz SSID. A bit more problematic with the combined one but it usually finds 6. Attribute the problem to the modem vendor (XFinity) rather than Apple.

People buy iPad for various reasons. At least in my case, I bought iPad for its “simplified” Mac, touch screen as well as its better battery life (than intel MacBook at that time). But iPad battery life advantage is irrelevant when Mac with silicone chip was released.

Depends on your needs and only you can figure that out. Honestly, I’m satisfied with my 12.9 iPad Pro!!!

Not at all - try to keep your device for years. Even 5 year old iPad Pros are still performing 100%. The M2 consumes more battery than the M1 - and the M1 already is a battery hog.

Apple more and more distinguishes the tiers with software locks getting you feel "obsoleting" the hardware artificially. Don´t fall for this.
