I'm resisting air1 to 9.7 pro upgrade for some time.

I upgraded from air1 to 9.7 pro last year when it came out. I dont regret the decision one bit, its a much better device in every single way. I would probably wait if i would still have my air1 for the new pros at this time.

Interested to know if the 9.7 screen is sharp and light. Is the 9.7 prob not shiny like my air1- display is my favourite feature of iPad. Lots of browsing and kindle reading. Some skyq hd tv though since got q mini box running in bedroom.

Have never took a great deal of enjoyment from 1 speaker sound of air though not too bad as portable listening whilst home. Certain 9.7 pro is a upgrade for 2017- probably purchase Smart Keyboard shortly after.

I have an Air 2 and am waiting for the new Pro models. I'd be hesitant to upgrade to any 2GB RAM iPad in 2017 as everything should be at 4GB in a few months. But if you don't care about longevity and just want a new machine for a couple years, go for it. The biggest drawback for me with this "new" model that is basically a poor man's iPad Pro is that the display isn't very anti-reflective compared to the Air 2 and especially the Pro.

I'm slightly confused.

Are you saying the latest 9.7 pro isn't anti-reflective or are you referring to the 2017 non pro ipad?

I'm going 9.7pro in a few weeks, just havent decided which retailer to make the purchase.

E.g. I could 'trade in' Air via mob provider at a cost to me £95 before pro purchase though that would leave me a choice of retailers, or I could trade in Air and purchase pro via mob provider -@210 upfront payment, 115 I reclaim from recycing air.

Decison is made 9.7 pro -I'll continue to visit this forum whilst others are more petient for new 10.5 ipads or pro's etc.

OP's question was about current 2017 iPad.

The 2017 iPad will be supported for the next 2-3 years for half the price of the possible new Pros. So if you dont need Apple pencil and want to save some money (my case), 2017 iPad is an excellent device with amazing longevity for its price.

Yesterday I took ownership of an ipad pro 9.7 to replace my ipad air, the only reason for me doing this was i got frustrated continually running out of space on my air and my data contract had run to the end of it's course, the air 1 imo is a lovely device and it's my wife's new ipad (only used for a few games and web browsing so 16Gb is enough for her) prior to that I had the ipad 4, and it's still running really well. In terms of use iPad air1 to pro the screen is lovely and the smart keyboard and pencil additions are useful split screen multi-tasking is great - forgot about that nugget until playing around, but all in all they are really similar in most respects, yes it's faster and (possibly more memory) and the camera is better, for day to day browsing watching videos etc.

As an aside I was offered the 2017 ipad for a few £ per month less than the pro, I couldn't really justify it, it seems to me that if you need to get a new ipad and are looking at a cost effective option go for the 2017, if you want more features, thinner, lighter, better processor, the ability to use the pencil and smart keyboard, better camera and video recording and better speakers the pro is the option for you.

Excellent pro review Inster.

Iv'e been reading too much Guardan recently 'tighten the belts' etc.

Though I appreicate 2017 ipad isn't going to be my techy purchaese this year.

Not since 2x macbook pro's to my current ipad air.

I've got the 'pro' ipad in my mind, maybe a while yet before purchase.

I have an Air 1 also and wondering about the upgrade to a 10.5" Pro.

I only use it for web browsing, email, and music listening - is it a waste of money to upgrade for that usage case?

Will iOS 11 run on an Air 1 I wonder?

Time flys, 28th April Iwas convinced next IPadAir upgarde to 9.7 pro.

Still convinced 9.7 pro is a genuine upgrade from Air1 though I'm certain others have reason to choose 10.5

I'll certanly be trying ios 11 via Air+Iphone 6 though maybe 1 ios version too much, time will tell.

Not going early pb releases until I review some feedback via marcrumours.

Early ios10 betas lagged terribly via Iphone. Though later releases have been excellent as has ipad air.

Hope there's a 9.7pro next year when my air contract expires.

I'll never consider a used pro, prefer brand new for such a reliable home device.

With 9.7 pro being fazed out, when are apple likely to remove them from stores etc, or is there a chance mobile providers will continue to offer 9.7 pro as UK providers seem to offer later ipad and iphone models on contract.

Im still scratching my head on this.

Im not sure for my usage case, I need to upgrade, but I do think iOS 11 won't run smoothly on an Air 1. Time will tell.

All the good 10.5 Pro reviews make me want to upgrade my iPad Air 1 too. Not so much the 2017 one though, it really doesn't seem like a good upgrade from the Air. Feels like something intended to sell to the iPad 2/3/4 crowd instead. But for the Pro I just can't quite bring myself to replace something used mostly for Netflix/YouTube/Spotify/Safari media things etc and a couple of games. For something that came out in 2013, the Air still does everything really well.

I guess I'll see what iOS 11 does to it and then decide.

My Air1 is turning into a 12.9 next week. My needs have changed and it should work well for me.

I have the "luxury"? Of a 9.7 with pencil in the house (my daughters). It's a nice upgrade for most tasks, I don't have an issue browsing on the Air at all though. I can't do most other things I need to though because they require the pencil.

I'm actually looking at getting a used 9.7 for my youngest, again the pencil is the key. As a homeschool mom I'd like to stop drowning in dead trees. I need to ponder the prices and budget.

I hadn't upgraded my air to iOS 10 until recently. It is amazing how much that fixed my major complaints. Safari was crashing multiple times an insomnia session, and since upgrading it's only happened once. Those of you that upgrade as they came out probably can't appreciate it as much.

Overall, if I didn't need to pencil and bigger screen to help with making money, I'd wait another year to upgrade. And yes, I mean need. I can't work well at all on my laptop sitting in a waiting room, creating graphics just doesn't work. Same for when health reasons keep me in bed for the day. I'm excited for my new work flow. Hurry up Wednesday!!

I still think if 9.7 pro is available 2018 in uk then that’s what I’ll upgrade Air to end of contract.

Though some very excellent 10.5 reviews at least I have a few months to continue dreaming..
