its worth it for sbsettings alone. seriously. rotation inhibitor and keepawake are the best plugins ever! as well as the ability to turn features on/off at any time.

not to mention, i LOVE the original transparent/clear/grey ipod touch 1.1.4 dock, not this stupid silvery crap. hence, i have winterboard installed. dont forget about volume boost and mail volume boost. its nicer on older phones, but i dont really use it on mine cause its loud enough i would think.

sms helper, which is a character counter in the messages app, and it can also tell you how many texts you have sent for the month. pretty handy

last but not least, customizable sms ringers. just replace the file and you are good to go. finally, i can have the metal gear solid "!" found noise!

i use to not see the point of jailbreaking, but now i cant live without it!

Jailbreaking takes some basic knowledge of how Pwnage Tool, iTunes and the iPhone work.

You will probably be required to put the phone in DFU mode, possibly recovery mode, to reboot the phone.

If this seems overwhelming, I would suggest you reconsider.

Actually, if you can follow a specific and detailed tutorial and pay attention to the details, it is not all that difficult.

I give you credit, based on your post(s) and the questions you asked, at least you have done some reading and research. Many don't even bother, just want to be spoon fed !

Read thru the tutorial or print it out. If you can understand what needs to be done in each step, you are probably OK.

You need a Mac for Pwnage Tool.

ya, I use my imac to synch with the phone, so I'll be using mac os x 10.5.8

I've had an iphone for about 2 years, and I've always been following up the jailbreaking news and so on, so I'm somewhat familiar with it. Just not the actual action of doing it..

I'm gonna do a little research and I'll let you guys know what happens..

you will lose gmail push if you jb, but you can goto exchange and i heard that push works. and i believe all the vvm probs have been fixed now with recent updates.

also, if for some reason I decide to go back to non jailbreak, and do a full complete restore from new.. will I be able to sync my contacts from my comp back onto the iphone after?

that restore is a JB restore right? and how do I save it?

Actually, it's so that if Apple comes out with a new un-jailbreakable firmware and stops signing 3.1 firmware files, you will still be able to downgrade or restore to 3.1. Just be sure to click "Make my life easier" in Cydia, and you will be all set.

thanks bro..
and I know this is a dumb question, but do you guys un-check ""check for updates" in itunes so you don't accidently update to a new version of the os right?

and apart from updating to a new version of the os, is there anything else I should stay away from? I know not to mess with the "root" i think thats what its called.. anything else I should be aware of that could screw me over?

and also, I posted a link to a site that could jailbreak the phone, and some guy re-posted a link saying I didn't have the newest version of pawnage, but his was for a PC, and I have a Mac,
so will this do the job?

http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/10/jailbreak-iphone-3g-os-3-1-2-pwnage-tool-mac/

and since I live in Canada, I've been able to tether with no problems..will this stop that? I know I can get apps after I jailbreak, but curious non the less
