Would you open up an out-of-state new line of service for the iPhone?

Be careful- I had cingular on a blackberry and they cut my service for roaming too much (I live in Burlington). The contract does state that if you use a partner network more than 50% of the time in the first three months they can terminate your contract, and they terminated mine and charged me a fee.

That said, I was able to go to a cingular store in MA, buy the phone, and give my Burlington address for the bill and there was no problem.

But I gotta tell you, the data service stinks up there anyway. Voice calls in burlington were fine, but there was no data service available.

Dude, that is ridiculous...I really don't want these sorts of problems...My bro is a data fiend, he barely makes voice calls, so more likely that not, 50% of our calls will be in Burlington.

Shoot, maybe I will just move...hahaha:D

and you can get a free roaming plan... dunno if it's been mentioned

Free roaming means you don't pay for roaming. Cingular pays for it (yes, they actually have to pay the carrier you roamed on for the minutes and data you used). When you use too much roaming and they're not making profit off you, they give you the boot.

If you were paying for roaming, Cingular would be encouraging you to roam because they'd be getting a cut of the roaming charges

Those crooks shouldn't have charged you a fee. If they cancel your contract, you don't pay ETF.

But yeah, Suckgular has the 50% roaming rule. So your idea isn't a good one

They didn't charge me the ETF, they charged me some kind of $45 service fee, which i paid and just billed back to my company instead of fighting with them, because they were sucking me dry anyway.

Yeah, but it's about the principle!

I really think I am just going to move...in two years...haha. I will buy the iPhoneII :D

I also live in the Burlington, VT area. I won't be getting the iPhone when it comes out, but I looked for fun on the AT&T website to see if they have coverage in this area (even though I know they don't). This is the image that came up, kinda funny to me. They completely surround us, almost looks like they are trying to avoid burlington all together (Burlington is just above and to the left of the Montpelier). I don't have interest enough in the iPhone to even think about going through the hassle you are talking about. i just don't use my phone enough, if I need internet, I am always near by a computer 90% of the time.

If you do get the phone, I want to come check it out. :).

Cingular/ATT needs to just show their power and buy Unicel. Make them an offer they can't refuse!
