People who are on 13.1 b2, how’s the mail app doing? I don’t use it anymore but was just curious to see how ready iOS 13 is for public release.

iPadOS has been almost flawless for me all throughout the betas. Less than 5 bugs combined and no resprings. iPhone X is a tad different.

Mail app in b2 is improving but is still buggy enough where I don't think it's ready for public release.
There's still email loading delays, blank spaces when deleting emails. Good news is the badge number is matching unread count and updates accurately.

I accept it's personal preference but is there any real benefit from waiting?

It all depends on what you want to do once the GM and public release are out. If I wanted to stay on a beta-train, I would have been on iOS 13.1 PB2 by now. However, I am planning to jump off the beta programme once iOS 13 is out for all, so I am still on iOS 13.0 PB 7. If I can get a GM (whatever it is based on) on Tuesday, 10 Sep - great. If not, I will just delete the beta profile and patiently wait with my old beta for the official release. Once iOS 13 (and Catalina) are out for all, I will flush my iOS devices and restore them from my iOS 13.0 PB7 backups.

13.1 beta 2 is much better than 13.0 beta 8 for me so, at least in my case, not worth waiting. For example you get automations and files app with external devices works great finally.

Maybe I’m mistaken then. Prior to iOS 12 I don’t remember getting an automatic GM download. I manually downloaded it when desired.
You're not mistaken. iOS 12 was the first year PB could get GM without using the developer profile or the .ipsw.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I suppose iOS 12 might represent the new norm though, that from 2018 on, public beta testers can download the GM. However, if it's the same build as 13.0 beta 8, it won't really be necessary. It would be more worth the effort though if the GM is a slightly later build.

And it's possible iOS 13 might also represent the new norm with early x.1 beta releases prior to the x.0 GM.

Yeah, this beta “cycle” has just been really strange. iOS 13.1 was the first time that a .1 update had a one week beta 1 as well. Things are just different this year so predicting is almost impossible.

It got MUCH better for me on (public) 13.1 beta 1. In 13.1 beta 2 some of the bugs that had resolved came back, but it’s not nearly as bad as anything prior to 13.1. During that time I used the outlook app as backup.

Do we really know for sure that 13.0 will be released on Tuesday? I don't think we know for certain.

Yes we know. :D

So if I have have 13.1 beta now, when 13.0 GM comes out will I be able to either downgrade or would my iCloud backup from 13.1 be able to be restored onto 13.0 GM?

Yes, I checked with an iPhone 7 Plus too, although my iPhone already has iOS 13.0 beta 8 on it.
Someone that has an iPhone on iOS 12.4.1 has to check for us. The date iTunes gives for both iPhone and iPad are not random, if you force close iTunes and start it again or even if you press the "Check for updates" box, the date remains the same. 10/9 for iOS and 14/9 for iPad OS. I believe that those are the planned release dates of the new OS.

What do you guys think?

Can you check with an iPhone and let me know if the date is different than mine?

The date means nothing. It checks every 7 days. Yours just happens to fall on the 10th. All it means is that you last synced your phone on 9/3. I last synced mine on 9/6. Also, there is no way iPadOS and iOS 13 will launch on separate days. Also, it never launches the same day as the keynote. Lastly the 14th is a Saturday.

Not sure why people look into things that are not there.

That's why I didn't upgrade to 13.1. 13.1 may not be out until October, and typically you cannot restore a backup to an older version of iOS.

You can downgrade to 13.0 but you will lose information and won't be able to restore the information from a 13.1 backup until you upgrade to 13.1.

Boooo here’s to hoping 13.1 just comes out instead of 13.0......

Unlikely. I expect the GM to be 13.0 beta 8 (or a slightly later build).

Also, that's why it confused me that the 13.1 beta became available as as public beta already. Yes, it's a beta so you're on your own with such problems, but often public beta testers are less savvy about this than developer beta testers.

Off topic: I hate that US number order for dates. 9/13/19 doesn't make any logical sense. The only reason we can be sure of that date is because there is no 13th or 19th month. It causes endless confusion in reports for other dates from varying organizations, since nobody ever knows if 3/4/12 means March 4, 2012 or April 3, 2012 or April 12, 2003, unless they they know that specific database's format.

2012-03-04 makes much more sense, since it can only mean March 4, 2012. This is how it shows up in iTunes in Canada on my computer: 2019-09-14

I think the problem stems from there being no uniform way to do it. I do a lot of work with the UK and it’s 14-09-2019. Day/Month/Year.

Obviously I’m biased to the way we do it in the US, but I always say Sept 14th 2019. So it makes the most sense to write it out that way. To me, saying 14th of September 2019 is a waste of words. But from a writing standpoint. Day/Month/Year makes sense.

Considering the state of current betas (both .0 & .1), I'm honestly worried even GM won't cut it for me, hopefully I'm wrong, though. Personally I'm waiting to see how GM will plays out.
Same. For the first time in years, I"m considering to keep 12.4.1 on my main devices until critical bugs I have with 13 are fixed. As of now, iOS 13 are not so good for me and clearly not ready for my everyday usage yet.

Plus, because of .1 update, I'm wondering if they'll release a GM after the event. Was iOS 9 got one back in the day because of 9.1 beta being in process as well at that time ?

I was wondering if mail was the last app that Apple had that still was written in 32 bit and the transition to 64bit was a lot.
