I think more annoying than fanboys is when people are labeled "fanboys" just for saying something good about apple. And that actually happens quite a lot, considering this is a mac related forum...

I've read a couple of responses to this thread, what I personally think is this, I'm not a "fan boy" but I do enjoy the products Apple makes, and I tend to find that a lot of the time they are superior to other products, but what irritates me is when another company that's not Apple makes a product superior to an Apple product, and people will blindly fight for Apple right down until the end.

I just wish some 'fan boys' would realize that it is possible and has happened many times that another company that's NOT Apple has made a superior product.

That's all.

Some would argue the use of the word "trolls" or "troll" is also inflammatory. ;)
Trolls and trolling has a formal definition in da Rulz:

"Trolling". Do not post in order to anger other members or intentionally cause negative reactions. For a given post, this can be a subjective call, but a pattern of such posting or an especially egregious case will get you banned. Basically, don't try to pick fights. Knowingly posting false information is also prohibited.

So, fanboy is inflammatory and therefore, trollish.

Pffh, you're just a fanboy.

:p

To respond to initial poster, if you can keep and open mind, criticize that which you're a fan of, and accept such criticism, you're probably not a "fanboy" IMHO.

a fanboy is someone who thinks that the zune hd is garbage based on the fact that they either have an ipod, or have an apple product or like to nip pick on baseless thinks such as the back looks the same as the iphone, it has screws or w/e

yes, yes it is VERY wrong to be a fanboy.

you give the rest of us (insert what you are a fan of) users a terrible name and are UNBEARABLY annoying and ignorant in all of the things you say. Notice that I am not particular in what fanboy is wrong. It is simply ALL fanboys. :)

You might as well ask "Should I be apathetic about all the things in my life?"

I find this war on passion nothing less than an ideological attack on individualism.

Stop caring about the choices you make in life and your half-zombie already.

is it so wrong to be an Apple fan-boy?

Yes. You are damaging the brand. You are doing the opposite of making Apple products look interesting and inviting for non Apple users.

It was the blatent lies and misinformation that came from Apple fan-boys that stopped me getting a Mac for many years. It was also a revolting concept to consider becoming a part of such a self righteous community. Not once, anywhere, did any of these so-called 'fans' make a compelling case as to why a Mac was a better platform. They just lied about XP / PC's, lied about the hardware in Mac, and threw insults at those that called them out.

I've been using a Mac for nearly 3 years. I still use PC's daily, and Mac's daily. The fanboyism is worse now than ever before, and it is still full of lies. I am embarrassed to mention that I own a Mac in some places, such is the hideous reputation that Apple fanboys have forged for themselves. There are some in this place who would happily watch Jobs put an apple logo on a turd, put a £999 price tag on it, and call it the greatest thing on earth. There are people here who have actually said they don't want prices to drop, because then their products will loose their 'exclusivity'. They have said, when called out on a failing of an OSX platform 'Well - Microsoft do it' - as if being the same as 'the enemy' is good enough.

I've been in a lot of forums, for both platforms - and yes, there are PC fan boys as well, who tell lies about the Apple platform. But on reflection, the smug arrogant self righteousness of your average Apple fan boy puts him or her in a different league.

NEITHER platform is 'best'. NEITHER 'wins'. Stop treating them like a damn religion and perhaps we can see better products from all quarters.

Nothing wrong with it. What's wrong with it is being at the center of pointless flame wars just because you worship Apple. I *worship* Apple, but because I think they're the best. Not because they're shiny and I'm close-minded. In a perfect world, everyone would be open to trying something new if it made more sense. But that's not going to happen. So to the fan-boys, just try your best to at least be polite. And to the fan-boy-bashers, just try to understand their point of view or at least respect that they have one. You can only do so much, after all.

The problem associated with the use of the term "troll" isn't its official definition -- it's the cavalier use of the term "troll". At times, some use the term "troll" to describe anyone who's openly critical of Apple or any of the company's products. In such cases, use of the term "troll" is inflammatory and therefore, trollish. ;)

I'm a huge Apple fan-boy and I always have been. I don't ALWAYS agree with Apple (at least not at first) but eventually I believe Apple knows what they're doing. I do not pray to Steve Jobs at night but I love Apple products. If Apple makes it... I gotta have it. It's obsessive, I know. It's an expensive obsession I have... really expensive, but it's what I love..

Nothing wrong with that, but then again there's also nothing wrong with getting laid either.

It's not wrong to be an Apple Fan-Boy.. As a matter of fact, I happen to share the same.. Obsession as you, "If Apple makes it, I gotta have it". I actually wrote a speech about my Apple obsession for a Year 12 english task! I just wouldn't be a FanBOY but a FanGIRL :D

I think it's great to have a sense of loyalty in any kind of decision we make (even our purchasing decisions). Sometimes it gets to be a little bit like how rival colleges get and becomes a bit silly (honestly, I'm a HUGE Apple fan but I don't care who uses what as long as the job gets done properly). People need to just be respectful of the individual decisions people make and keep their noses off others' business!

What is up with all the "Choose PC" banners on this site? Is that being a fanboy when I come to a specifically Mac centered website and see PC adverts all over the place? I know bills have to be paid...but geez.

If you were really a fanboy, you would have donated to this site and removed the banners. :D

I used to go nuts over the whole PC/Mac debate. But now, I don't really care. I mean you've got to find what you like, and what fits you best.

If it's Apple, then it's all good. If it's something else, that's cool.

As long as people are happy, they won't mess with you :D
