Is mac pro dead ?

well it's been known for some time that they have some sort of plans for the mac pro but not until 2013. I would expect 0 updates until then.
 
It is in the same state as the original iPod. But there is a difference between music player and a computer for a professional folks.
 
The Pro is not dead, I believe Apple with reinvigorate the market next year with something spectacular, we'll just have to wait until then.
 
was disappointing to see all the mac mini and imac stuff with USB3 ports and no news about Mac Pro.

Hell, just do a non-show update or something.
 
I would say, look at the features apple is releasing with the current products. Apple will be providing the pro with amped up versions next year.
 
No, the Mac Pro isn't dead. Apple will shortly come out with new sled adapters for the mac minis. Need a 12 core Mac Pro? Pop in 3 mac minis.
 
As per Tim Cook and Apple earlier this year, there is something for the pro users to look forward to in 2013.

We believe the comment made by Tim Cook a time ago. Luckily, if exists any 2013 update, it will go with options seen in the media event today, like Fusion drive, USB 3.0 and so on. I am counting in a update to the Mac Pro in the 2013. But if not, that no will be the first time Apple dissapoints me and a lot of people :):apple:
 
For a while it was looking like the imac was being set up to overtake the tower for some pros and it definitely had the potential. I was hoping that they would release an 8 core and 12 core imac perhaps in the 2011 enclosure, but it looks like the imac is settling into a more comfortable prosumer role.
And that's fine. It might be enough to create a more pronounced market gap between the high end models - a powerful one box solution in the imac, and a supercomputer configurable option in a potential pro line.
Perhaps, now that Apple has just about nailed every possible option for consumers they can turn their attention to their loyal(ish) pro users.
For me, upgradable power, graphics, speed, and memory with intelligent software and connectivity would be great. Let me choose my displays, and I'm in.
 
My bet is March 2012 with new Mac Pros with Ivy Bridge processors, USB 3, Thunderbolt, and a new 27" 5mm thin Cinema display as seen in the iMac 27".

The optical drive will also be thrown out the door and the tower will be redesigned.
 
We already know Apple is saying there won't be a Mac Pro upgrade until next year. Why is it a surprise they didn't upgrade it?

That email has been widely misinterpreted. IIRC, Cook's exact words were "something great is coming next year". While this was an answer to someone's complaint about no new MacPro's last June, I think his carefully worded answer leaves plenty of wiggle room.

As long as Intel doesn't announce Xeon boards with native Thunderbolt support, I'm gonna believe there will be no new MacPro.


But mayne, Apple sure knows how to trigger your purchase impulses. I have no need for another computer, but I really do want that sexy new iMac now!

If they kill it I hope they do soon so I can buy a current one..

I bought an older one because I couldn't stomach the price of a "new" one recently. If they kill it I'll stomach the price.

I would be very surprised if this doesn't happen. I don't know if it would mean a new Mac Pro, but I doubt Intel would launch desktops without Thunderbolt after a certain time.
 
The Mac pros will be the first apple capable of running the large retina monitor that is in apples future. The iMac won't be able to go retina for years at 27 inches and using a laptop GPU. Retina will save the Mac Pro for a little longer.
 
theres nothing else to update but the mac pro. I hope it comes in early 2013. I finally decided the imac wasnt for me so its all pro....just gotta wait for it to come!
 
not dead but I do think it is laughable that the mac PRO - the powerhouse workstation mac - is now the only computer apple sells that does not come with USB 3.0

It is not laughable as the chipset does not support it. It is practical. No Thunderbolt is laughable. No current display to connect to it is the biggest black eye. The DVI Cinema is still around because of this.

There is also that issue of needing more than 4 cores... And any storage system you would prefer.
