Is MobileMe going to improve on iPad?

I apologize if this is in the wrong thread but i believe many ipad users who are using mobileme are wondering if Apple plans on creating versions of the iDisk and Gallery specially for the iPad. Also, to download files from the iDisk to work on it in iWork on the iPad and upload it back to the iDisk folder?
 
You just never know with Apple. One month they'll give you something you never knew you needed and it's fantastic. But a year later, you could still be waiting for the obvious usability tweak that people have been clamoring for all along.

Heck we were promised iPhone tethering LAST JUNE. Tap. Tap. Tap.
 
Mobile Me

I hope mobile me will hook into the iPad with OS 4 or even an app. I wished sometimes that Apple was just a tad more open about the future.

PrintCentral ($10) is pretty handy for being able to manipulate files on your iDisk. It seems better for most everything than the iDisk app, with the exception of being able to specify files to share. One thing I like is being able to email yourself a file from your iDisk, which then allows you to open files for editing in the iWork apps.

I would like to see an update to the Gallery app as well.
 
I am sure that you are all well aware that UK is still waiting for iPads - but one thing I had not doubted was that Mobileme iDisk would be available directly from iPad. I think that I am reading that it will not - is that correct?

I had decided that the 16Gb 3g with Mobileme would be sufficient for my needs as files that I may wish to work from would be stored in the cloud, but if that is not the case I may need to rethink.
 
Yeah if they can use mobile me as a good file management. Creating both a remote and temporary file system for iPad. That would be great
 
It's sort of the million dollar (or...$99...) question for easy productivity on the iPad. Until there's a seamless way to shuttle documents to/from iWork (and other productivity) apps to iDisk (or dropbox or other filesystem type apps) the very-kludgy workarounds will have to suffice :(
 
I bought for $69 wth iPad and will be returning it today. The Sales rep practically begged me to buy it. lol. Apple store is right around the corner, so no prob.
 
Improving the MobileMe interface with the ipad would make almost everyone who owns an ipad buy a subscription to MobileMe, I think.

Imagine if they fully incorporated it into the iwork apps. So you start a Pages document on your ipad, then press an integrated button labeled, "Save to iDisk," which would automatically upload it to your idisk. Then later you go on pages on your mac and press open, and find the document on your idisk, work on it, and save it back to the idisk. Later, you then open Pages on your ipad and press open, and you could access the document you saved from your mac on your idisk.

Its seems simple enough, and would be 100 times better than the current file system they have, which involves emailing, or using a crappy iwork.com beta, or physically syncing with a mac. None could beat simply being able to access and save to idisk from directly within iwork apps.

Come on Apple, get with it and make using MobileMe easy on an iPad!

I wonder whether/how iDisk and iWork.com get combined in some way. I agree that mobileme subscription uptake would go through the roof for iPad users if this "just worked" the way we all expect it to. Grousing about the $ would go through the roof too :)

But honestly I'd pay for it if it worked well...
 
I have always loved Mobile Me (.Mac) however I am really disapointed that there is nothing on the iPad for intergration.

Come on Apple do something with Mobile Me and please give me an i5 Mac Mini, I don't ask for much :D
 
I think  needs to make MM work fist in order to offer it on the iPad.

Logged into MM mail lately with Safari? what a joke. Loading... Loading... Loading... Everything on the MM site takes fricken forever.

Hell, I have subscribed for 2 years now, and idisk is great, but you never know what type of success you will have on any given day.

They need to fix that el-pronto.
 
I think that's why Apple is building that gigantic server farm in North Carolina. Once that is up and running it will become the Apple Universe and we'll see all kinds of Cloud stuff and more. It only makes sense for Apple to do that. I just hope the subscription price doesn't go up then. At $99 a year (cheaper thru Amazon) it's certainly a cash cow for them. It just takes Apple so dang loooooooooooooong to do everything!
I went ahead and got MM now even though it's not fully functional for me, just so I could go ahead and get the email name I wanted.
I think MM is gonna be a BIG, BIG deal sometime in the not to distant future.
 
am i missing something here. there are apps that allow you to get what ever you want off idisk. one can get all photos and videos off gallery, mail thruu mail, what els does one need. I think Mobil Me works very well as it is!

The problem is that any apps that allow you to access the idisk are workarounds, and aren't integrated into the other apps themselves. So you can't access your photos on idisk from the photos app, or your videos from the videos app, or any of your other documents from the iwork apps. You have to do various things with the files to get them onto the app you want, sometimes this includes emailing it to yourself, not a very seemless solution.
 
I would love to be able to sync notes on iPhone and iPad and also documents and spreadsheets between Mac and iPad via MobileMe. If they offered this I'd reactivate my account.

So let me get this straight. You can create a Pages document on your Mac and store it on your iDisk and then have it automatically sync with your iPad and update it in Pages on iPad? I think not. Or I can update a Note on my iPad and it will automatically appear in Notes on my iPhone? I think not. That is what cloud computing is all about and Mobile Me is not there yet.

I agree. But for Address and iCal, everything automagically syncs between my iPod Touch, Macbook and iPad. I wish the rest of the data sync was that seamless. In fact, I already had all my contacts and a full calendar on my iPad before I exited the Apple store the day I bought my iPad. Why oh why didn't I have access to the files on my iDisk from Pages or Numbers? Poor execution on Apple's part. That's why.

I wonder if the inclusion of iWork on iPad was really a red herring to lure in people who were sitting on the fence but needed the "I can do real work" excuse to spend so much money? Imply the thing can do real work and hope people like it so much they will keep it for the entertainment? This would mean that if we ever want to see MobileMe integration with iPad, people had better start taking them back or Apple will write this requirement off as "unnecessary" and us off as "whiners" who are still willing to let Apple keep our money. I'm not saying mine is going back, but the thought has been on my mind since Friday...

Dude, I can't even figure out how to get MM to let me sync a simple grocery list across all my devices (at least, not one that I could *edit* on the iPad. I would even live with view-only on the iPhone). At least I'm doing the free trial.

We don't have tethering because of AT&T not Apple.
 
MobileMe shows what’s wrong with Apple’s Internet strategy.

I hope with their new data center, they plan on aggressively improving MobileMe starting with acquiring DropBox as a replacement for iDisk, integrating iWork.com within MobileMe and offering iTunes cloud storage for purchased content which could then be streamed to your Macs and mobile devices.

With free services like Gmail, Google Calendar, Docs, DropBox, etc, MobileMe becomes harder and harder to renew each year.

At this point, its only saving grace is syncing (between Macs, my iPhone and my iPad) and the “Find My Phone” feature.

Well, Apple actually has an iDisk application for the iPhone that you can download from the AppStore. iPad users just want a higher resolution possibly more features version.

What do you plan on storing on the cloud? Remember, not only do you have to think about availability, but also about whether you can open them.

+1. Although I enjoy using MobileMe, it still leaves much to be desired in the way of air-tight integration with the iPad versions of the iWork apps. SJ touted that Apple is the "largest mobile devices company in the world" during the iPad keynote. To sustain such a claim it would only be fitting to have robust cloud-based services that synced mail, contacts, calendars, iwork apps, notes, voice memos, and iTunes content down to all of these devices. That would be MobileMe at its finest.
