I don't want to convert my Mac to a Linux machine, and at this point I'll continue to use it until some brave developer can keep a browser up to date for a machine that will eventually no longer be supported.
As noted, for OPs use-case it is, and the writing was probably on the wall the moment they decided to purchase with only 8gb of RAM, which was insufficient for many heavier uses even by 2020 standards.
OP - definitely purchase as much RAM as you can afford this time around and you might get 8-10 years out of the next purchase, as you could have done here.
