just wondering whether do u really need a OLED ipad for basic usage like surfing internet, watch videos and youtube.
or should i just get the M2 ipad pro?

All personal preference and budget, only you can decide. Apple hasn't even confirmed OLED so hard to say if it's worth it.

No, but apparently Apple has been delivered OLED screens, according to supply chain specialists. It's a good chance it's true.

I agree with @ericwn

It all depends on what features are important to you. For some people audio is very important, like @Digitalguy. So you would gravitate to a pro automatically if that’s the case. If streaming the latest shows in HDR with great black levels is important than mini LED or OLED is definitely welcome.

For me personally non laminated is a no go so base levels are off automatically. Also no way I’d go back to a home button and that dated iPad 9 design.

I like the bigger iPad Pro as a work assistant device because of the bigger screen

The audio and OLED screen are more important for the consumtion of content. So What i may do in the future is :
- buy the smaller 11 inch iPad Pro M3 for content consumption
- keep the bigger M1 Pro for work related things and if that dies in a few years, replace it with the rumored bigger Air.

It will depends on What the M3 model will be like though. if it’s just a spec bump like M2 than I’m skipping another generation.

Only if theres no chance of burn in. Some apps have to be kept on for hours with the screen on (iMovie while rendering comes to mind… and I would do that overnight)

No need for OLED for basic usage. It is just a want or it is nice to have. The OLED iPad is expected to have steep price which is not needed for basic consumption. Get the basic iPad, no need iPad Pro unless you want to get 12.9 or need extra features iPad Pro offers. Keep calm, get things what really needed and enjoy life!

Dang that's some long rendering times. Sadly if the move to OLED does come and burn in is an issue for this kind of use case then a move to another hardware platform (Mac or lower end non-OLDED iPad or otherwise) might be in your future.

I’m already using an iPad Pro 11” now and it’s fine for my needs, but mini and micro LED is better fo my particular use case (though, blame the software really since there’s no “clamshell mode” of sports on the iPad for certain functions). As the iPad Is my only device (apart from the iPhone) the overnight renders are best for me. Wake up and it’s done.

If the price is around the same as before, then I wouldn't mind OLED. But it's not a "dealbreaker" for me. I could definitely live with out it. As long as the display is high-res and has a high refresh rate, then I am good with it.

I went ahead and got a 12.9 M2 pro because I didn’t want the probable price increase with oled and the risk of burn in. Plus I wanted the new toy now, not later haha. I’m sure oled will be nice if it happens but it definitely wasn’t a dealbreaker for me.

OLED is a deal maker for me. It’s a killer feature for reading in the dark, and also very nice for watching video at night. I’ve been using a Samsung AMOLED tablet for this, but will likely replace it with an OLED iPad. I wouldn’t buy a new iPad for at least another year or two if not for OLED.

I would see it as a nice addition but not one I would pay a premium for; I would be disappointed if it led to a significant price increase in the Pro line, something that would definitely have an impact on my purchase decision (my last two iPads have been 12.9 Pros).

It is for me. But that's between LCD and OLED. Mini LED and OLED are so similar in my book that they're about the same.

If they can guarantee no burn in, then yes, but since they can’t, I can care less about OLED. Current versions are just fine.
I highly doubt they can guarantee no burn in especially this issue is common found in OLED tv

Not really, the ipod gen 10 i now selected over the air has a perfect screen resolution
since that is a tablet and serves the purspode of a tablet!

I don’t need an oled iPad myself but love having an oled display on my iPhone so much better then lcd for sure 👍🏻

Since OLED will likely drive the price up and I see no benefit from it for myself whatsoever, I would say it’s not worth it.

Then again, I’m no longer sure I’d get another iPad Pro. The only reason I got one was the 12.9” size. If the iPad Air is indeed coming in that size, I’d rather get that because I don’t care about pro motion or any of the other “pro” features, either.

But that’s subjective and only you can decide if you’re getting your money’s worth.

As @ericwn said, though, for basic stuff, you don’t exactly need an iPad Pro.
Even the base gen 9 iPad does basic stuff more than well.

OLED will come at a premium cost compared to non-OLED iPads. I think it is why Apple is considering larger iPads in the non-pro category .

I will sure give the OLED screens a look when they come out!

You can't compare to existing implementations. It will use a new dual stack tech that is designed to dispense with burn-in. Each element will use far less brightness, combined to achieve the actual brightness the eye sees.

Cannot purchase to own any OLED iPhone due to PWM and pulsing/flashing display so won’t be able to buy any new iPads either 🤷‍♂️

Burn in has become a meme at this point don’t listen to anyone who talks about it

oled is better yes but only u can decide if it’s worth your money

To my nearly-six-decades-old eyes, my iPhone 15 Pro and my iPad mini 6 both look fine in most conditions. But, reading a book at night is a little easier on the eyes with the iPhone... and looking at the screen outdoors as well.

So I do look forward to OLED on a future iPad mini, but until such a beast exists I'm fine with what I have.
