after looking closely on the promotion pictures and unboxing videos I’ve noticed that the amount of information on both the XS and XS max are identical. Even the spacing between icons. I used to have an iPhone 7 Plus and the icons were barely scaled up and had a lot more spacing between them and more information such as text in safari. It seems like that isn’t the case with the max? Can anybody confirm this? I see no point for me to get it, if I can’t consume more information on a larger screen.

People are saying that Apps need to be optimised.

If I were in the market for a Max, I'd wait a while....I got my X in March - which I initially thought was way too late, but as it turned out, many of my Apps weren't optimised until this year, so by the time I had the X, they had all been updated for the new screen/resolution.

Since the Max is the first of that size for the iPhone, it may pay to wait or else you'll be stuck with a 'beta'-like experience within many Apps.

it was mentioned that developers could, but many have yet to make changes to their apps right now. you can also expect some glitches until the apps are updated.

But I’m referring to the stock apps, safari, notes, photos, apps Icons on the home screen, control center and toggles.. they’re larger

The x never felt like a beta product. Most of the apps I used where updated in a few weeks.
The most polished apple product ive used actually. even more so with iOS 12

The Xs Max, like the Xr, can display 22% more information than the Xs and X.

This would be reflected in apps like Safari, but other apps would have to be updated to support the new screen.

Alternatively, you could use Zoomed Display mode, where the Max (and likely Xr) would display the same amount of info as the Xs, but just bigger.

But I’m not talking about apps form th store. I’m talking about the whole iOS and stock apps. The home screen, the control center, togggles, safari, notes and so on..

Like I said, the Max displays 22% more information. I already mentioned Safari.

For icons though they might just space them further apart.

It’s basically the same situation as the 8+ vs 8.

No. Apps will use the screen space appropriately. Some may still need to be optimized, so they might zoom until then. Just like when the iPhone 6 came out. It depends on how they were coded. If they’ve been following Apple’s new guidelines, most apps should automatically adjust to any screen size. But some may specifically need to be updated.

Stole this image from another thread a couple days ago but don’t remember where.

Thank you so much for this! This is what I wanted to know. Any other pictures showing safari, toggles and home screen?

Great pic. I’m going to steal it too. Note though the pic is misleading. Those pics do accurately show the amount of screen info displayed but the actual relative screen sizes are not correct.

For example, the Xr and XS Max do indeed display the same amount of screen info but the Xr screen size is 0.4” smaller.

Scaled up (also known as "bigger") is just fine with me. Stuff is too small on the X.

Sorry that’s all I had. I just saved it while reading a thread on here sometime within the last couple days, when I was trying to get an idea of how much bigger the Max is.

Despite the captions, I believe this also represents XS/XS Max displays

Edit: scrap that, the corners of the screen are off - looking for another example

Edit 2: I’ll leave this here, however the example a few comments before mine is much better

The Max is definitely not the XS screen just blown up. Presumably the Display Zoom will let you achieve that if needed, but otherwise it’ll be like the Plus vs 4.7”. You’re getting more real estate. The XS actually has the same UI width as the 4.7” iPhone and Max has the same UI width as the Plus iPhones, for example. Both have more vertical real estate though compared to those respective phones.

Lol I had shared that pic in another thread, though in fairness I saw a developer on twitter share it. Like EugW mentions though, the XR and XS Max are different physical sizes so seeing their screen resolutions side by side isn’t entirely accurate.

This is the best way to see all of the UI resolutions and screen scalings to compare.

Edit: wrong image attached, I’m having one of those days. Apparently the extra row of home screen icons is no longer a thing, my apologies.

Here is an example that’s illustrative of my disappointment with the XS vs XS Max, by way of 8 vs 8+ comparison.

The 8+ offered a true difference in screen real estate utilization (e.g., *snip*extra row on home screen*snip*, landscape home screen capability). The Max (and XR) will allow some additional capabilities within apps (dual-pane) however it doesn’t seem like many app developers have shown interest in taking advantage of that ability.

I have a MAX coming friday, but if i don't see more ACTUAL information on the screen, it's going back. The one thing I really didn't like about the original X (which I returned) is that with the larger screen compared to a 7/8, it really didn't show much more information on the screen. That is just a waste. I want MORE INFORMATION on the screen.

The 8 and 8+ in that picture have the same number of rows.

Why do you say it doesn’t seem like many app developers have shown interest when the phone isn’t even out?

It’s very similar to the 4.7” vs 5.5”. Actually in terms of the UI, the pixel width of the 4.7 is identical to XS and 5.5 is identical to XS Max.

Both the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus have the same amount of rows?

Maybe I'm missing something, but the 8 and 8+ in that picture have 6 rows and a dock each. Just like the XS and XS Max.
