Hmm the pixel density does not change when you hide the top part of the screen. And the screen does not become wider when you hide the top part of the screen.

Try again?
It's approximate using a DPI calculator. Not sure how to make it not set itself to 16:10. I've updated to be slightly more accurate but still not perfect.

Edit: Changed to 14.04" diagonal.

as far as less battery, both battery tests are listed as using brightness "8 clicks from the bottom." Considering the 14" has a much brighter screen (400 nits vs 1000 nits), I wonder if 8 clicks from bottom on the 14" is actually much brighter and that is why the battery last for a shorter time?
That's a good question. Hopefully upcoming hands on reviews will bear this out. I was pretty bummed out when I saw the significantly worse battery ratings with the 14".

There is also the new low-power setting in the battery settings. On the M1 Macs it reduces power significantly so I wonder if on the the new M1 Pro and Max if it is proportional or more of an absolute setting for total power. If it is proportional then it might work very well to keep up performance for low intensity tasks that don’t require 6 to 8 cores.

The 14" MBP has 5.9 million pixels compared to 4.9 million on the 13" so that is 20% more. So even accounting for the small area used by the notch, you're going to have more usable screen space, as jdb8167's post noted. The 14" display is also 254ppi vs the 227ppi of the 13".
