Trust me it’s going up in price, why...

Imagine if the iPad Pro stayed at 769 base, if the air was 128gb at its base it would be 679 not 579 as it is with 64gb which would be a mere 90 difference in price than the pro if the storage capacities matched.

So if the pro offers better chip (A14X), better speakers, miniLED, Face ID, better cameras, 120hz screen, 5G etc it would be absolutely crazy to even consider going with the Air at the price point with its minuscule storage option.

There is definately an increase in price on the cards for the next gen iPP.

Think it will due to the fact mini led panels will cost more from the sounds

He's right. Just like how they decided to not totally upset the current Pro sales with the Air, the same will happen with the next generation Pro's. If they don't increase the price gap the new Pro's would be too good of a value to pass on -- no one would buy the Air if the 2021 Pro's are only $50 more expensive at base.

I bet that the ipad pro won't increase in price at all. These are enthusiast's speculations. Lots of people buy the entry level model, and $200 difference is more than enough to differenciate them. It will make less sense to go with with the 256GB air but that does not change things. Apple will be more than happy to have their more expensive devices cannibalize some of the cheaper ones... The only alternative scenario I see is Apple putting mini led only in the 12.9 like Samsung did with oled in the 12.4 only. But it's more likely that they'll put it on both IMO. Instead, it's absolutely possible that we won't see an ipad pro untill after the summer... Whatever happens Apple won't increase the prices of the pro, 100%. We'll see who is right.

You also forgot to add...this is Apple we are talking about...so yeah, price increase is at least something Apple won’t leave us wondering about!

I'll bet the price increases, period. The bigger question will be "Are we getting anything for the increase?" How would you evaluate buying now verses waiting for the unknown of what "might" be improved for a couple of hundred dollars increase? Wish I knew. Should I wait to see if Apple puts the Qualcomm modem in the iPad Pro 12.9"? My need is for improved cellular connecting outside of the big city.

Kuo did say there would be a price increase due to the mini led tech....will see though i guess. We won’t know until march at the earliest.

I am expecting in 2021 we will see:

iPad Air base storage going up to 128GB and bumping the price to $649.

The iPad Pro 11 coming in at $899 and the 12.9 at $1099 or possibly staying at $999.

I wouldn't bet on any ipad air 5 in 2021, but we'll see. As for the pro, in my opinion the $200 difference will stay. I highly doubt an increse in the 11in one, if anything it could be the 12.9 to increase in price, but only if it gets something that the 11 doesn't, like mini-led

There is ZERO reason for Apple to not put full Safari into iPadOS 15. "iPadOS" so far has been a joke. It's nothing but a rebranded iOS from the iPhone. But with A14(X) and M1 being basically the same chip there's nothing that stops Apple from backporting a full webbrowser into iPadOS.

No I think the current airs base will go op to 128GB I mean.

If we get a 11 inch pro..

We will, it’s already planned, have you seen how far recessed the camera is on the Magic Keyboard? It’s a very deep recess so I expect this was intentional for a larger camera bump on the next pros

And I think that not only the base will stay at 64 because it fits Apple's strategy, but the air 4 might not have a successor until 2022....

Guess will see, the fact there are zero rumours of the 11 inch iPad Pro getting mini led is a worry certainly when kuo has said iPad mini and iPad Air could be getting mini led in 2021.

iPadOS has been more than a joke (default desktop engine for safari and download manager, external storage, mouse support, improved multitasking), but is still far from macos on some points... I think the main missing features is proper external monitor support, but yes full safari is another thing although safari does not have as many extentions as other browsers.... I don't think that mac safari would be a game changer. Mac file system would, but the issue is that apps shoud be updated to support it (as is the case for full external monitor support). So Apple can only do part of the work...

You’re not wrong because the biggest obstacle for the iPad is Apple itself. This is most evident in the user reactions to the M1 Macbooks.

“OMG. The battery life is amazing!”
“Wow, it literally turns on instantly!”
“Hey, its not even getting warm?!?”
“Can you believe those rendering times!”

iPad users see those comments and roll their eyes a bit because we’ve been enjoying these benefits for so many years. But then...

”Cool, Final Cut runs native on ARM already
“My old apps run pretty quick despite it going through Rosetta2”
“Did you see Chrome got an optimized update”
“Oh, we can use iPad apps here?”

Thats when reality hits. We’ve been running these overpowered iPads for years and Apple never allowed it evolve beyond a platform where the only app that pushes it to its limits is Geekbench.

Back to the topic, I love the iPad. But realistically then nothing in a 2021 model has value to me until Apple puts effort into iPad software. Sure, its possible the ARM transition will bring Mac apps to iPad. But its more likely that Apple will continue to hold back the iPad because they’d rather sell people two products than just one do-it-all ipad.

Yeah I don’t see apple extending iPad to be more like the mac not when they are pushing iOS apps onto the mac now..feels that is their focus than making the iPad into a full computer replacement

Frankly, I've been thinking this when the A10X and especially the A12X hit the iPads. My only question back then was the performance penalty for x86 emulation.

I don't expect I'll be able to rip Blu-rays on the iPad (that's probably against App Store policy). However, if a dinky Raspberry Pi could run Calibre (ebook management), the only thing preventing it from running on A9X iPad (around Core 2 E8500) or faster is the OS/software.

I tend to only upgrade when I have a need to.
I’m upgrading from an iPad Air 2... so for me it will be a big jump To 11” IPP.
Gonna get the magic keyboard too as I plan on doing some writing.
Going for the IPP for Promotion, better speakers and more importantly the Lidar as I fancy looking into that from a development perspective.
I also have the benefit that my employer will be paying a third of the price If I buy now.
So given we don’t even know when a new IPP will land, it makes sense for me to upgarde now.
I held off since March and then summer to see what the AS events brought... but 13” is too small for a laptop for me.
I expect the 2020 IPP to last me at least 3 years.

If you're going to upgrade from the iPad Air 2 to the 2020 iPad Pro, that's a huge upgrade.

However, I would suggest that if you can't get a good discount on the iPad Pro, it's not really a good value at the end of 2020.
