Or you could buy an Apple-refurb'd 2020 iPad Pro 11 for $689/256gb $609/128gb. I'm in the midst of a similar decision process and am leaning in that direction (128GB version). Reasons: FaceID, speakers, 600nits v. 500 on the Air, don't need M1 horsepower.

I’ve got an iPad Pro 11” 2020 w/ A12Z and I I’d choose this over an M1 iPad Air because of ProMotion and the speakers alone. So if I was looking at the M1 Pro, I’d. say it’s worth the minor difference in cost for the upgrades over the Air.

The M1 is already overkill for what the majority of people do on an iPad. So don’t worry even if there is an M2 version coming.
Refurbished iPP 2020 (if available) vs Air is no brainer. Just get iPP 2020. Even it’s very close to iPP M1. I have both (M1 is mine, 2020 is for my father) and I still didn’t notice any significant difference between the 2 (which justifies the price difference).

For me, it is not. The main reason being is that I just use the iPad for basic tasks, media consumption, reading, and emails. I don’t need to pay the premium for promotion and touchID/passcode work just fine.

For gaming needs I have my PC/Switch/PS5, so the iPad Air has more value for me over the pro version.

The 64GB 5th Gen Air is not a sensible solution as the storage is so low. Thus, an upgrade is required, especially when thinking about using the device for multi-yeas use. When upgrading to the 256GB 5th Gen Air, the Pro is so extremely close. From my point of view, anyone not going with the Pro is crazy. If one is spending around 800$€ for a tablet, 50$€ more should be a no-brainer, again when thinking about multi-year use. In addition, for the small extra you get the premium device (better build quality / no creaking, better speakers, Pro Motion, better camera).

I don't know. The same storage option for either of them is a $130.00 difference, and the iPP is on sale for $50.00 off. Looks like a tough decision. Apparently the iPA is $30.00 off also but for some reason doesn’t show as on sale. Personally after having the iPP, I would still go for the iPad Pro. It has changed the way I look at and use computers.

Oh man. With dollar prices, the difference is really much more obvious than with euro prices. For euro prices, the devices are almost the equivalent. Making a sensible decision this year also depends on the country, sick.

If you’re staying on base storage then the air is the better buy.

If you’re buying more storage for your air then just spend $50 and get the Pro if 128gb is enough for you.

Costco currently have brand new ipad pro 11 128GB M1 for $699
Was evaluating this. We have a Air 5 on order from Costco.

After going through the Pros and Cons, decided would prefer the 256GB on the Air5 vs 128gb on the Pro for our particular use case. The others pros on the Ipad Pro while great, are less useful for us.
