Here's another vote for Postbox. It's replaced Outlook on my Macs and PC.
I use Microsoft Outlook but only because I have an O365 account that I want to use. Apple Mail works also with O365 though, but I prefer the functionality of Outlook. The same applies also on iOS and iPadOS. For people that just want a good mail client, Apple Mail is more than enough though.
I use Apple mail app for my private account and MS Outlook for my business account. Both work perfectly for my needs.. That's all I need![]()
I got a new iMac recently and decided to keep to a minimum the number of apps that I loaded onto it. So I switched from Chrome to Safari and from Outlook to Apple Mail to see how well they would perform.
So far, the change has been seamless and I haven't seen a need to download third party versions of these apps. These days all browsers have much the same capabilities, as do most mail readers.
Well, actually I have returned to using the Mail.app on macOS, mainly because of its better OS integration. Another thing that bothers me in Outlook is that is the way it integrates calendar and tasks and contacts. I prefer the calendar.app on macOS, so it just makes sense to use Mail instead of Outlook..I primarily use Outlook but it has some weaknesses that require Mail.
1. You can’t share files from finder or the photos app to Outlook. Only to Apple Mail.
2. Mail handles plain text emails better than Outlook.

Windows Outlook for your business?
Just dumped Apple Mail.
Actually, it kind of dumped me after the Catalina upgrade (not an uncommon problem; it disappeared some local foldters). So it was just easier to go to another program. The structure of Apple Mail makes it kind of tough to fix.
Also, Apple changed how Spotlight indexes email, so that the third party applications I use could no longer access email. Ugh. Kind of wrecked integration across my application workflows where I use searching to gather say a diverse bunch of files, including emails, together.
So I went to MailMate, and love it. More control. And it's been more reliable, and frees me from having to deal with OS update issues (I'm trying to avoid using any application that can't by itself be updated or not updated independently of a system software update).
I still use iOS Mail though; have had far less problems with that client than the macOS client.

j/k
I'm happy with Apple Mail for my most important accounts. For "junk subscription accounts", I would rely on some free mail service like Outlook (Microsoft) or Gmail (Googly).
And for some reason, my Apple Mail account only rarely gets hit with random junkmail/spam. The free services like Hotmail and Gmail tend to be much larger targets for scammers, spammers and junkmail bots.

I use my custom domain with a ProtonMail paid account and I am pleased with how it works. Works well on my MBP and Samsung phone. I have found their customer support to be very responsive, friendly and effective.

Same issue here. All off a sudden mail from people in my contacts or even marked as VIP ends up in the junk folder. I don't have any junk rules set up and tried putting those mails back in my inbox, but mail simply doesn't learn.I use Apple mail, and have been ever since it launched.
I have been happy with it, other than it sometimes label mail as "junk" from addresses that I have been receiving mail from for many years. All of a sudden, the mail app would decide it is junk.
Overall it is good, but the only other mail app I have used recently was Outlook.
