I don't think it does, it looks as though it's a straight up dac with amp.

The tricky question I think is figuring out how to get 5.1 out of your iMac. As it stands apple has no optical out on their iMacs. I know there used to be some kind of device that converted firewire into surround sound, but it's no longer available. It didn't use the convenient fiber optic cable either, it used a bunch of different cables, so it was meant for a multiple speaker system.

As I said earlier though, if you don't really need the virtual 5.1 when gaming, then you don't really need ANY external dac for the AD700s, because they hardly get a benefit from them.

Ah I see, you have to have a toslink minijack adapter, no wonder why my standard optical cable doesn't fit in the back of them.

So if I were to get the Toslink plug, I could then connect the Mixamp or sound card?

If your intention is to watch DVDs or play games, then yes I think it should work with 5.1, although I'm not 100% sure because I haven't done it myself. That said, I remember hearing at some point that Quicktime can't put out more than a two channel stream over the optical connection. It's a vague memory from a few years ago, so take it for what it is. I just thought it worth mentioning in case Apple hasn't fixed it yet, which wouldn't surprise me too much.

Cool. If I ever decide on something extra for my ad700's it would probably be the mixamp.

I have it connected to an amp via minijack/toslink and it works just fine, 5.1 and all, sounds great.
