How do you like Liquid Text? I saw it and was thinking about it, but wasn't sure. I'm assuming this isn't for PDF editing and annotations. It's more for actual interacting and analyzing texts?

LiquidText is a game changer for me. Annotating a paper with my thoughts, reactions, questions, and using the workspace to outline my thoughts about a paper... if only I had this in University

Wow, good one. First you make the newbie mistake of asking a question about a product without giving any info about your personal preferences, exploiting the friendliness of the community that still gives kinda meaningful answers to a potentially meaningless question, because it's completely possible that all the answers are pointless, if they don't address your requirements. And when someone tries to channel the thread into a useful direction, you insult them?

You buy an expensive iPad Pro without actually evaluating first whether they key accessory is useful to you or not (and one of the key reasons why it's expensive is the support for the Pencil, actually). That makes you, to put it mildly, not very smart. On top of that, you got a bad character as well. Unpleasant combination.

And by the way, go and learn what the word "troll" means. It's not what you think it means.
Now you know if I'm smart and have a bad character

He asked a valid question in an attempt to help you and you react like this? Noted. I was going to offer you some advice on the Apple Pencil, but instead I'll spend my time helping someone else.
Go right on ahead.

Go troll somewhere else. Unlike the other replies that gave their input u just went with a stupid answer. Move along now.
Wow, totally uncalled for. The first step to help anyone with technology questions is to ask for their usage scenario. There is no need to be rude to a member that is trying to assist you. Keep that in mind the next time you ask for help in any situation.

Yes. If you find yourself taking notes, drawing on your iPP. With the more responsive displays, I will give the iPP 2nd gens and the pencil another chance. Now I can justify purchasing one of the iPad Pros, given the upgrades to the iPP in terms of pencil and overall productivity too.

I use the Apple Pencil very day. I use it mostly for taking notes at work - usually with the Notability app. I've completely replaced paper notebooks. I email my hand-written notes to my work account from the iPad.

So I do have some further questions if someone could enlighten me:

1) Do you use the Apple Pencil for more drawing, annotating, thinking, scribbling, or etc.? My reasoning for this is that I am just completely awful at being creative but would love it for school reasons.

2) How does it work with comparison to Apple's iPad Pro keyboard (if you've ever used it with it)? I know this may seem like a weird/dumb question but does it make sense (as well as improve efficiency) to have both combined?

3) I'm cheap...and that's saying something although I have an obsession for Apple products (yes, I know that's the most contradictory statement EVER). However, has anyone gotten a real deal buying the pencil or is it across the board $99USD?

As always, thank you in advance if you have any information or feedback to give. You are all wonderful and I APPRECIATE any and all feedback! :)

1. The Apple Pencil for educational purposes (note taking, reading textbooks, etc.) is an excellent device paired with the correct app. Notability - for example - is an excellent note-taking app; maybe PDF Expert / Goodnotes / LiquidText for PDF annotations, etc. We need an Apple Pencil thread; I'll post one in the Apps subforum later on unless someone beats me to it.

2. I was going to add a note at the end of the post stating that this post was based off my research (first Pro device coming Monday), but here it is now. If you're talking about using the Pencil while it's in Type mode (so the keyboard is out), it comes across a bit odd in my head (actual use may be different). The way I see it, your wrist position would be extremely uncomfortable, but again I have no experience.

3. You can find deals (https://slickdeals.net/newsearch.ph...=25&forumid[]=30&forumid[]=9&forumid[]=54&r=1) but only if it's not super important and you have the patience to wait (or your timing is impeccable).

1) I'm no artist, but I do take a lot of handwritten notes for work and otherwise. Also the Pencil came in really handy a few months ago when we were buying/selling a house and had to sign digital documents. I would sign right in the email, hand the pencil to my wife and have her sign, and then send the document back over to whoever needed it. No printing and scanning necessary. Also, just having the Pencil available renewed my interest in drawing again, so I have been sketching and "painting" more with it.

2) I don't consider the iPad Pro a fully Pro setup unless you have both items. I always have my Apple Pencil right next to my iPad when I'm using it. Sometimes I use it for navigation when I have it set up next to my Mac, sometimes I use it for notes. I even have a couple of games that it works great with--Dawn of Titans is much easier to play in keyboard mode when you use the Pencil to tell your troops who to attack.

3) I got mine for $100 at launch. I have some friends that have randomly found deals at $80 or $90. Look around on Amazon and you'll find deals.

Thank you so so so much for your answers - I truly appreciate it! Maybe to clear things up on the Pro Keyboard questions; the reason I asked it was I like to type notes when reading for school, so my thinking with that question was how feasible it was to circle or highlight key words in notes/books while also using the keyboard. Your answer to that makes sense so I very much appreciate all your help in answering my indecisive "self" having all these questions! :)

Much appreciated for your answers - I will keep on the search for a good deal but seems like the $100 is getting easier to spend after reading your guys' responses! Now you mentioned you play games using the Pencil...would you mind explaining what types of games it's great for? I am partially confused and partially intrigued that it has a spectacular use for games as well (I truly had no clue you could use it for that)...! But again, thank you for all your help!

I am deaf I need Apple Pencil to write and share it with other people to communicate each other. :)

I love that! Off topic, but has the iPad Pro's accessibility features (including the Pencil) made it easier for you to do daily tasks much easier/convenient? That just seems wonderful that it helps you communicate!

I am a college student and use the Apple Pencil with the current 12.9" Pro for taking notes in all my classes. My classmates lasted semester were extremely jealous as I didn't have to bring a think paper notebook to class. I typically used OneNote for my class notes as it allowed me to color code the different notebooks and highlight specific notes. I have no artistic skill so don't use any drawing apps.

What's worth it to one person might not be worth it to you. Just buy it and try it out.

I sketch, doodle, will take notes with them so it will be worth it to me.

I use it for taking notes at work. Like others have said, I remember better when I write things down vs. typing.

When I had iPPs previously, it was wonderful to have the pencil ready to go to write down story ideas and such whenever the mood strikes. To be able to write with the pencil is something I am also looking forward to doing again. Best Buy occasionally has sales on the Pencil too (the most recent I saw was $95), but the pencil is worth the price.

I bought an Apple Pencil for annotations when reading papers and other manuscripts.

The other day I watched the original iPhone presentation from 2007 where Steve Jobs talks about using a Stylus...ahah. If you have a few minutes, go ahead and watch that. I can highly recommend it.

I bought the pencil with my 9.7" Pro last year just out of curiosity - I wanted to see if it could be a replacement for pen and paper. Also, a part of me wanted to see if having one would encourage me to draw. I can tell you that for me, it has done neither of those things. I tried it for note taking and it really just did not feel natural. I found that my writing needed to be much bigger than it would be on paper in order to be legible. There is not much friction when dragging the pencil across the glass screen on the iPad so don't expect it to feel like anything you're used to (unless you've used a stylus in the past, of course). I also would try to rest my hand on the iPad while writing, which occasionally would cause unwanted touch input. I believe in iOS 11 there is the option to only accept input from the pencil - which hopefully will fix that issue. The lack of drawing is mostly my fault as I don't have an artistic bone in my body...

I have to say, I was more pleasantly surprised by the smart keyboard. You'd think that a laptop makes more sense if you are going to use a keyboard all the time, but there's just something that feels good about being able to attach and detach the keyboard on the fly. It gives a whole new dimension to the iPad experience.

Is anybody an artist who uses it for drawing? Thanks.

Yes, I use it for sketching mostly. It works great. I should note I don’t do much refined work and almost no painting. My main complaint is it glides too easily on the glass. I put an anti glare screen protector on the iPad and that helps some, but not as much as I want. I wish they made optional tips with more friction.

Not an artist per se but learning and trying to get my feet wet with digital art. Bought the 12.9 plus apple pencil primarily to draw. This is my very first attempt ever at drawing a realistic face (well, trying to draw a realistic face). The following is still very much a work in progress.

If you don't have a specific use for it, no not at all. I was given one as a gift and I don't use it at all. Not an artist, don't like to draw or take notes on it. For me, it's useless.

GTFOH that was done on an iPP. WOW.
I was in a store and I was so impressed with some of the drawings (all in color)
your sketch is outstanding, nice work
[doublepost=1516368910][/doublepost]Some on asked me to mark up a picture of an OEM watch band.
Broke out the iPP and pencil and took maybe 4 minutes to mark up the pictures and send them. There was a thread which I shared them.
Since then I have used it highlight/markup other pictures for presentations. I feel hand written mark ups when describing things attaches the real life emotion to the topic.
