I have the same sitaution. I ran the numbers and it costs me about $120 to upgrade so I am doing it. If it was more than that, i probably wouldn’t. Double storage, double RAM, better screen, will support further iPadOS versions, and on the precipice of a chip-uncertainty situation (as in does apple raise the price $x next year to make up for increased chip costs? Who knows)

That is the thing, especially with the uncertainty of the chip situatio, a price hike would be exrem off putting

Nope, people who were able to get the 11 inch 1 TB LTE version of iPad Pro in 2018 with 6 gb ram were lucky. This is the model I have and there are no issues and it's been what iPad should be and it's still going strong. I had this one since 2018 and will graciously wait for a OLED model in 2022 and may just wait till 2023 if this thing keeps on doing well. Don't forget the M1 models throttle so quick, it's ashame.

I have both 2018 and 2021. I still used my 2018 everyday for a month after the 2021 purchase until an update caused the 2018 to fail.

ONLY difference I noticed is the display is brighter when watching movies.

My 2018 model still works great but with only 64gb onboard, I am wondering if it is enough for RAW photo editing on Lightroom. It is the storage which is the only issue for me.

That is a shame that an update killed it, and strange as they are normally pretty tough machines.

If you don't need instant file access, you can always save your files to Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive that you can connect to the Files App.

But unfortunately, many apps just saves files within the apps themselves so it's troublesome to export those files out to cloud storage.

As for my old iPad Pro, I'm just waiting for the next iPadOS to update again and hopefully it can be revived.

That is the thing if I have done a shoot when away from home and want to do editing on say the long train journey back, then instant access to files is essential. So as far as I can tell there is 2 ways of doing this, the first would be external storage like the WD Passport that allows to save from memory card and then plug that into the IPP. Or the second choice is a new iPad with high capacity storage.

Hopefully the next update will unbrick your pad.

My old iPad Pro 2018 is back alive with the latest update.

Turns out the iPad Pro needs to be disconnected from the Mac instantly after the update instead of leaving it connected as the Mac was telling me to.

Maybe not no but I do enjoy the mini led display. Certainly given the amount of video I watch on it.
The only reason I am considering getting one from my mobile provider is because of the 1tb storage, when combined with the magic keyboard, it would be great for editing photos at home and when away from home

Yeah I love mine it’s always used for most part with the Magic keyboard. I like the fact I use it on cellular at work as well and given the signal issues at work using this plan it’s flawless speed wise

Well I spoke to one of my mobile providers about an hour ago and while they wasn’t able to offer me the 1tb version, they were able to offer me the 512gb, which is good enough for me and is a massive jump in storage to my current 64gb 2018 IPad Pro. Now to raid The accessory forums to check on which keyboard case to get.
