Is the most expensive, lower spec’d iPhone “Slim” really a folding iPhone?

I don’t think it will fold and if it does it will for sure be $2 grand and turn into a tablet. I’m thinking as the name suggests it will be a really thin iPhone. Like razr from back in the day was to cellphones

To me, it's Apple's answer to Samsung Galaxy Z Fold/Flip but Jon Prosser:

The beauty of this phone is in is aesthetics and weight. The Pro and Pro Max have always been ugly ever since they were first launched, with their haemorrhoid cameras and ridiculously chunky weight and size (not to mention horrible colours). I would like to have the Pro features, and the extra £200 is trivial. But for these reasons I have always gone with the standard iPhone as I care about form and style

This iPhone slim is for people who want the Pro features but in a more stylish, aesthetically pleasing and light package - which is more true to what iPhones used to be like anyway. I will be upgrading from the standard 15 to standard 16 this year, and going for the Slim in 2025. F- the Pro and Pro Max

Apple finally learned to sell solutions to the problems they create it seems. Apple is pushing into the stupidly huge and overweight phone category so they create a more aesthetically pleasing phone at a potential higher price than the "Pros" for celebs like Ariana Grande who just wants a pink phone.

I'm all for it but if it's not a foldable phone just a prettier one I'll curious if it will be a new status symbol vs Pro. Pay more for less but it doesn't look like your ugly nerdy Pro model ha.

Maybe I'm the outlier here, but in my opinion, a really slim, redesigned iPhone would have wayyy more appeal than a gimmicky folding phone. So I personally think those rumors are silly.

I am thinking back to when the iPhone X launched alongside the 8 and 8+. Spec-wise, it had a smaller screen and worse battery life than the 8+, but its new form factor justified the higher price. Next year will be the third year of the revised form factor of the iPhone (titanium frame). If we are expecting a new design in 2026, maybe the iPhone "slim" is a sneak peak of that form factor?

With the rumors of the iPhone 17 “Slim” being more expensive than the Pro Max (albeit with a smaller display, lower specs, and aluminum body), I was curious if the reason was because it would have a brand new folding design?

I mean, how else could they justify pricing it higher than the Pro Max? 🤔 The only other reason I could think of is perhaps Apple is intentionally feeding misinformation to leakers in the company in an effort to weed them out.

Any other reason you could think of as to why the iPhone “Slim” would be the top priced phone outside of a radical new form factor? Also the extremely thin nature of the phone would make sense if it folds together as you wouldn’t want it to be too thick and not be pocketable.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the matter 🙂

Respectfully, it is silly to debate something like the price when we have no clue how much it will cost.

I believe this 'slim' model will be very popular and will sell well regardless of price.

I am rather certain this is not going to be folding iPhone. I think we will see folding iPhones in 2026.

Gurman agrees the Slim is "something that sits in between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro."

I’m thinking maybe we should wait until the actual phones and price breakdowns have been released before coming to any conclusions. There’s still a lot of time to go yet.

Another crazy unrealistic alternative:

This thin iPhone design is the first step for a new product line. An iPad like product that includes a built-in dock for a thin iPhone. Plug in the iPhone and the product looks like and acts like an iPad.
