lol...people aren't giving Apple the light of day on this one huh? They're just quietly sitting there working on a phone and OS while people go nuts saying they're falling off or whatever.

I think people just need to chillax, if anyone deserves the benefit of the doubt, or anyone deserves a chance or respect, it's apple. To deny that is well...unfair.

I still love my iPhone, but there needs to be some better options and functionality with the phone. First I would like the option to pick a text tone without jailbreak. Another would be I know this would be a wing and a pray but, tethering. Currently I am a college student, and am in a class that is on the furthest end of campus and the wireless doesn't reach. I would just like to use my phone to connect to the internet. Sadly, I doubt Jobs will ever allow it. Also I think it would be cool. Even though there are companies that do it for you, but have more of a color selection for the Phones. There would be a lot more I would like. If some how the people at apple could create Pages, Keynote and Numbers for the iPhone now that would be cool.

I'm so dissapointed with Google

I tried out the Nexus One and it sucked due to the buggy touch screen and software. I returned it and bought an iphone. The iphone took a week to ship and by accident, I ordered two. I returned one and Apple's given me a refund. So why am I mad at Google? They still haven't even processed my refund for the POS phone I sent back to them.

So maybe spec wise these android phones are better, but guess what - open source means nobody owns up to anything. I would rather be on a closed platform where somebody makes sure everything works and I can hold that somebody accountable whenever something doesn't.

I just hope Apple can keep up with the pace of progress that these Android phones are showing.

I find the turn-around for software fixes much quicker on Open Source projects...

How often does Apple listen to customers and put in requested features?

Ubuntu releases a new version of their operating system every 6 months. Android also pushes out updates faster than Apple does. As far as Google processing a return, selling physical products is a totally new business for them. This is their very first. It sucks right now, but if you have a phone that's working great (which many do) then that's a non-issue.

I know many members of this forum are technology innovators and as such, relish the latest technologies. There is certainly nothing wrong with that but for someone like me who just bought an iPhone in December to replace a 4 yo LG phone, the iPhone is light years ahead. Everything is relative including the iPhone.

No kidding! And it's a 3Gs. :) I've got a 3G only. :p

Let me start off by saying I love my iPhone to death. Always have and always will.

With that being said I have to agree that CURRENTLY the iPhone is no longer the front runner. I'm not saying its obsolete because its far from it, but I am saying its no longer the best phone out there. You have to compare the new HTC phones to the new iPhone coming out in the summer. THEN will you have a true comparison in my eyes.

Seems like every post you have is reiterating how horrible the N1 is. Opinion. That's yours and it's cool.

Do you really think everybody is going to have the same experience? I've had it for a few days now and I love it. My touch screen is accurate and I've experienced no bugs.

I realize I'm in a Mac forum but is it really fair to go thread to thread and make sure everybody knows how crappy of a phone it is when you only had one? Kinda seems like misinformation to me.

As far as the iPhone goes, I'm going to miss the iPod. That's about it.

every product becomes "obsolete" at the end of it's lifecycle. It's just a matter if Apple can leapfrog the competition with the next revision, I think they may in ways we don't expect (which is kind of the apple way).

Rubbish..

Listen, the iPhone is the no. 1 unit available today.
As regards battery, well it is down to how much you use it. If you use it alot and you are smart you have a charger for your car and you plug it in at work and at night, then no prob... :apple:

Which smartphones have you used?

I agree, the iPhone is getting very outdated. It was the star for a long time, but now it is not anymore.

Still, the 3G and the 3GS are not bad products, if you can live with the annoying limitations. I keep my 3G because I have free mobile internet on it without subscription (UK PAYG deal). Otherwise I would have sold it already.

I love my Nokia 6300 phone and I always used that for making calls, partly because of the 3G's poor battery life, partly because of the iPhone arrangement that I have.

For friends, I now recommend either getting an iPod Touch and a mobile or HTC smartphones.

BUT LET'S NOT FORGET THAT APPLE WILL SOON BRING OUT SOME NEW iPHONES (hopefully)... They might get the lead back.

yeah, that what I'm planning to do, sell my 3GS, get an iPod touch and a Nokia E71/72 as a phone. but i would like to try the HTC evo 4G too.

IMO, the design is obsolete, the OS homescreen is starting to become boring/obsolete.
I'm sure Apple will upgrade the iphone with the ipad processor and probably add some more ram, but i don't think the design'll change (mac pro anyone),nor the OS.

The thing i like about the iphone is the apps (the useful ones of course), i don't like it very much as a phone or PIM, that's why i'll sell it and get the ipod touch instead or iPad and get a good phone or a superphone.

It seems that most of these posts are confusing obsolescence with boredom. You can probably thank the overactive, iPhone-obsessed media for your boredom with the product. The iPhone is not obsolete... it's not even dated. We've just been over-saturated.

What worries me is the Ipad. I don't think Apple wants the Iphone upgrade to be TOO good. If the upgrade is too good, it will deter attention from the Ipad. The Ipad has a 1 ghz processor so the Iphone most likely wont. If the Iphone has a front facing camera, it will make the Ipad look very bad. It's marketing at it's finest.

Apple has always been able to innovate, but after wards they suck at maintaining. The only way the next Iphone is amazing is if it isn't an Iphone at all. They would need to come out with another product that is a phone but not an Iphone.

I think the iPhone will get the 'Blackberry Syndrome'. Meaning it might not be the best phone or get awarded by Time magazine or whatever the Droid got. But it will be the best at what it does in other words the easiest, least complicated, 'every works', but still powerful phone out. Though Android are catching up and their system is getting easier and as far as hardware and all that they're long way ahead. I'm in the market for a new phone now that my 3G contract just expired. But I'm thinking of having it for work and a HTC 4G for fun.

there are numerous threads out there comparing the iphone to the nexus one. I don't see how there is anything unfair of me reporting my experience with the iphone and nexus one in an impartial way. I'm sure a lot of people are interested in a comparison between the two phones from someone that has used them both. By the way, I've used two GN1's. One was the original one I purchased, the other was the replacement they sent which turned out to be worse than the first.

He actually raved about it before having more and more issues, if I recall.

Exactly, I was originally amazed by how awesome the phone was. I'm just calling it like I see it. If there is currently a tinge of negativity to my posts about the Nexus One, it's because I'm still out the price of two phones waiting for HTC to get it's act together.

I'm actually a fan of both Google and Apple. I wish they would play nice so that I could have a seamless a google experience on my iphone. It doesn't look like that's going to happen so in the mean time, I'll keep an open mind to the next generation of HTC and Apple phones.

Now that you mention it I do remember reading your situation. It's a lot different than what I was replying to earlier. I was under the impression that you had one N1, were unsatisfied and sent it back. The fact that you went through two with similar issues is a different can of worms altogether.

I apologize if it seemed like I was attacking you. :)

An amateur input. Since Google is behind the N1 with all of Google's technologies, does Google have the potential to take smart phones to another level compared to Apple?

Wow I wish everyone on these boards were such nice people! No apologies nescessairy but thanks for the good will though. To be fair, looking back at some of my old posts, I am writing a lot of negative words about the Nexus One. I think though, that rather than being just plain negative, they reflect disappointment at such a great phone being unusable due to it's achilles heel - the touch screen.

Given that there are some people on this board saying that they have a nexus one without any problems and the fact that the 3gs is about to be refreshed, I may just give Google a second chance. Because it would be such an awesome phone if it weren't for that touch screen. If the third phone turns out to have similar issues, I'll return it and just hold out for the next iphone. I don't know, still on the fence. I really liked the dictation - it felt like star trek.

What scares me about the Nexus One is that everybody seems to have such a different opinion. Makes me think the hardware isn't consistent at all.

I want to see somewhat of a refresh. The iPhone has changed relatively little since it's explosive debut.

I dont know, I think a lot of people get blinded by specs.

Fast processors and big high resolution screens does not mean it will be a great phone to use.

The user experience is what matters.

90% of my friends wouldnt be impressed by me saying, "My new phone has a 1GHZ Snapdragon processor and high reslution OMLED screen"

It means NOTHING to the common man, so to speak.

The iphone keeps things simple and silky smooth.... and it works for me

Although, I am praying for a new notification system this summer :)

+1

And lets be honest...who's going to need a 1GHz processor in a mobile phone? Maybe a few games will be able to use the power, but appart from that there is no reason to have the most powerful phone, with the most RAM and the fastes processor. It's not like you're going to start encoding movies in your pocket!

For me it's all about the UI...and the iPhone wins this no problem.
