I've never placed any value in having a backlit keyboard whatsoever.

Don't type in low light. It should be your choice. Don't do that. If you have to do so, you probably do it often...therefore your touch typist skills should be pretty good.

I just don't understand I guess.

What if my choice is to type in low light? lol...

Using the internet is not typing. It's entering passwords, and using * and _ and :// and stuff like that... if there was NO NEED for a backlit keyboard then why do they even exist? Why do I have them on my desktops and laptops (well, not my Air...).

I can touch type when I'm just using words, but using the internet is not like typing this post, which I did touch type.

I don't NEED a backlit keyboard, but I definitely WANT one and have come to expect one in 2010.

If if it is the next release, we will know it was not a space thing.

The battery? I don't buy it. I could always turn it off when I was in conserve mode.

The majority of people that want a backlit keyboard are not good typists. It is a huge benefit to poor typists.

I would certainly like for you to point out any real proof that says the "majority" that want a backlit keyboard are poor typists. I happen to be quite a great typist and love having my backlit keyboard on MBP. This has nothing to do with people being poor typists. That's a very elitist statement coming from you and I highly recommend that you lay off repeating it. You will offend people here soon enough. The backlit keyboard is very helpful to elite typists in regards to the function and punctuation keys. Yeah, show some proof about the "majority" wanting backlit keyboards being poor typist. And please don't use MR as an example. MR is no indication of a majority.

I use my MBA at least a few hours every night completely in the dark. I never look at the keyboard. Let me try and understand this: you are great typist when it comes to letters, but you can't bother to learn to remember where the function and punctuation keys are?

Many great typists have issues with the punctuation keys and I never mentioned anything about not being bothered. Thanks for your unfriendly comment.

I know this is a huge train wreck, but I just can't leave it alone. Do you really have to look at the keyboard for those characters?
