Hey Guys, original poster here.

Thank you all for your advice and for the entertainment (-:

I ended up waiting for the 2017 update (kaby lake), and was now wondering if the same advice applies?

If you were me: would you upgrade the Radeon Pro 555 with 2GB memory to Radeon Pro 560 with 4GB memory, or the memory from 256GB to 512GB?

+ let's say I go crazy (and bankrupt) and decide to get both, which comes to 2519$ (with student discount) isn't that just stupid and might as well just buy the next model (2.9GHz, 512GB, Radeon 560 4GB) for an additional 80$??

Whatever it may be, I am going to make a purchase in the next couple of days, that's for sure.

Thank you!!!

Tom.

- One more, unrelated, question: does somebody know if apple offers "tax-free" refunds on their products? Though I am a student here in the states, I live overseas. So I was wondering whether I can get that sort of tax return in the airport when going back over for the holidays...

Do you need both? Then get both!

It's really not that much difference in cost, just wash a few extra dishes or beg a little harder. You shouldn't be in a situation where you're budgeting is so tight that you cannot get 512GB and the 560. Remember you'll want cases/accessories/adapters/cables/software to go with it. There's a lot of great windows machines out there that you should at least consider, and that's just me being unbiased by the way. Just saying make sure your budget includes the whole Mac ecosystem and not just the base machine...

If it absolutely must be either then surely the 560 wins, you'd notice a lack of GPU faster than you can plug in an external backup drive.

That's not an Apple thing, that's an individual-state-it-was-purchased-in thing. Some states do, some states don't. Some states only do it if you provide proof you live in another state/country at time of purchase, others let you file for a "rebate" later. Look up "out of state sales tax refund <state>" where <state> is the state you purchased it in.
